Salford City and Shrewsbury Town finished 1-1 and went to penalties with each side down to ten men. J. Davison put Shrewsbury ahead on 47, S. Stubbs was sent off for Shrewsbury on 74, K. Malcolm levelled for Salford on 78, and W. Aimson was dismissed for Salford in the 90th minute. Shrewsbury won the shootout 4-3.
QPR and Millwall finished 1-1: L. Cundle put Millwall ahead on 54 and M. Sykes turned into his own net on 86 to level it for QPR. Millwall went through 2-0 on penalties. Barnsley and Wigan also finished 1-1, D. Costelloe scoring on 40 and C. McGeehan replying on 81, and Barnsley won the shootout 6-5. Bromley fell behind to J. Stokes on 14 and levelled through M. Cheek on 33; R. Taylor was sent off in the 90th minute and Bromley lost the shootout 5-4 at home to Reading. Preston, reduced to ten men when L. Gibson was dismissed on 21 minutes, fell behind to R. Balker on 38, equalised through J. Erabi in the 90th and beat Huddersfield 4-3 on penalties. AFC Wimbledon saw off Newport County 5-4 on penalties, C. Maycock's 90th-minute leveller having cancelled out Y. Bamba's goal on 71. Stockport lost 5-4 on penalties to Doncaster after A. May and K. Wootton traded goals on 50 and 51, and Burnley beat Notts County 4-3 on penalties, Z. Flemming's goal on 48 answering C. Roberts on 42.
Among the ties settled in normal time, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City both won 4-1. West Brom scored four at Rotherham through J. Morgan on 8 and 61, H. Whitwell on 24 and F. Myhre on 55, with F. Tavares replying on 87. Norwich beat MK Dons with M. Toure scoring in the first minute, A. Slimane on 7 and B. Chrisene on 43, R. Wintle replying on 56 and A. Brooks making it 4-1 on 59. Cardiff City beat Swindon Town 3-2: G. Osho put through his own goal on 9, Y. Salech levelled from the penalty spot on 28 and put Cardiff ahead on 43, P. Glatzel made it 2-2 on 62, and J. Moylan won it on 77 before J. Debayo was sent off for Swindon in the 90th. West Ham beat Portsmouth 3-1, T. Castellanos scoring on 43 and 50 either side of J. Bowen's goal on 45, after A. Segecic had put Portsmouth ahead on 33. Leyton Orient beat Oxford United 2-0 with D. Mitchell scoring on 85 and I. El Mizouni on 88, Southampton won 2-0 at Colchester through C. Larin on 72 and R. Akachukwu on 90, and Sheffield Wednesday beat Bolton 1-0 through J. Lowe on 70, X. Simons having been sent off for the visitors on 56.
