MLS REVIEW 19 Aug 2026: Ten-Man Toronto Draw 3-3 as Messi, Red Cards Mark MLS Night

Toronto were 1-3 down and had been reduced to ten men when they somehow salvaged a point against Charlotte. Charlotte led through R. Aloko in the 8th minute before M. Cimermancic pulled Toronto level in the 13th, only for I. Toklomati to restore the visitors' lead by the 20th. W. Zimmerman was sent off for Toronto in the 56th minute, and Charlotte made the extra man count almost immediately as H. Kessler put them 1-3 up in the 58th. Toronto refused to fold, D. Salloi cutting the gap to 2-3 in the 76th minute before N. Dorsch levelled it up at 3-3 in the 90th, a remarkable finish given the numerical disadvantage.

Philadelphia and Inter Miami shared six goals and two red cards. I. Vassilev put the home side ahead in the 11th minute, but Inter Miami turned it around through D. Pinter's equaliser on 21 minutes and Lionel Messi's goal on 26, which put the visitors 1-2 up. N. Pierre equalised for Philadelphia on 58 minutes to make it 2-2, and the match finished with a sending-off apiece deep into stoppage time, C. Sullivan for Philadelphia and Y. Bright for Inter Miami.

Real Salt Lake and Dallas produced seven goals between them. Dallas led 3-1 at half-time thanks to J. Valiente, a P. Musa brace either side of S. Solans' reply, and looked in control, but Real Salt Lake hit back through M. Guilavogui and D. Luna to level it at 3-3 by the 64th minute. Dallas had the last word when R. Binyamin scored in the 90th minute to make it 4-3.

Cincinnati beat NYCFC 2-1, the result our model had favoured: K. Mboma put the home side ahead before Luighi equalised for NYCFC, and Evander settled it in stoppage time. Nashville won 1-0 away to New York Red Bulls, with M. Woledzi scoring the only goal in stoppage time, another club our model had made favourites. Chicago won 2-1 at Orlando, again as the model called it, P. Dithejane's early opener cancelled out by D. Brekalo before R. Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot to win it. Colorado beat LAFC 1-0 thanks to an own goal from J. Ebobisse in the 22nd minute, despite Rafael Navarro missing a penalty in play for the home side. And Portland, favourites too, beat San Diego 3-1: K. Velde opened the scoring, Gabriel Pirani levelled for San Diego before the break, and A. Lassiter and D. Da Costa put Portland out of sight in the second half.

New England won 3-0 away to D.C. United, all three goals scored by A. Yusuf, in the 23rd, 45th and 66th minutes. Columbus lost 1-2 at home to CF Montréal despite levelling through an own goal from T. Gillier, sandwiched between P. Owusu's opener and N. Streit's late winner for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Sporting KC drew 1-1 with St Louis City, E. Lowen's first-half goal cancelled out by C. Harris after the break. Atlanta won 2-1 at Minnesota, T. Jacob and T. Muyumba either side of A. Markanich's equaliser. Austin won 2-1 at Seattle through F. Torres and Guilherme Biro, S. Hawkins replying late for the home side. LA Galaxy beat San Jose 1-0 despite playing from the 45th minute with ten men after L. Sanabria's red card, J. Paintsil scoring the only goal in the 79th minute. And Houston won 1-0 away to Vancouver, F. Negri's 34th-minute strike settling it.
