Scottish League One PREVIEW 15 Aug 2026: Hamilton Top the Pile as Rankin Returns to ZLX Stadium

Hamilton Academical, six points and plus six on goal difference from their opening two games, are the early pace-setters in League One and host Airdrieonians at the ZLX Stadium on Saturday knowing a win would open a gap at the top. Airdrieonians arrive with two points from two draws under John Rankin, who took the Diamonds' job on 23 May 2026, three weeks after their Championship play-off defeat. Montrose have lost both league games so far and sit on a goal difference of minus six, an early continuation of the defensive trouble that shadowed last season's sixth-place finish under Stewart Petrie, now in his tenth full campaign in charge, when the Gable Endies conceded 67 in 36 games. Alloa have taken a point from their two matches, drawing one and losing one. The model makes it close, giving Alloa a 47% chance.

Peterhead, fifth after a win and a defeat, host East Fife, one place and one point above them, at Balmoor. The fixture has history: East Fife's own head-to-head figures put the all-time record at 63 meetings, Peterhead winning 26, East Fife 21, with 16 draws. Peterhead's season is being overseen by the co-management pairing of Jordon Brown and Ryan Strachan, while East Fife are managed by Dick Campbell, in his second spell at the club. The model makes this the most likely draw on the card, at 36%.
