Scottish League Two PREVIEW 15 Aug 2026: League Two Saturday: Spartans Chase Bottom Club Stranraer

Stranraer host Spartans at Stair Park sitting bottom of League Two without a point from their opening two games and a goal difference of minus three. Spartans arrive on four points from a win and a draw, with a goal difference of plus two, and our model makes them favourites at 48%, the strongest single figure across the round. Spartans were League Two runners-up last season on 64 points before losing the promotion play-off semi-final to Clyde 3-1 on aggregate, a 2-0 defeat at Clyde followed by a 1-1 home draw, and so begin a fourth straight season at this level. Stranraer finished fifth last season with 47 points but head into this weekend with defeats in both league games so far.

Annan Athletic host Clyde at Galabank, with Clyde fifth on three points and a goal difference of plus one, just ahead of Annan in seventh on the same points total but a goal difference of minus one. Our model gives Clyde a 38% chance. The sides met last month in the League Cup group stage, when Clyde won 4-1 at home on 21 July 2026. Clyde are still absorbing play-off disappointment from last season, losing the League One play-off final 5-4 on aggregate to Hamilton Academical after drawing the first leg; Annan finished seventh in League Two on 41 points.

Dumbarton host Edinburgh City at the newly resurfaced Dumbarton Football Stadium, known as The Rock, which laid its first artificial pitch over the summer. Dumbarton sit eighth on three points, Edinburgh City ninth on just one point with a goal difference of minus five Dumbarton having won one and lost one, Edinburgh City drawn one and lost one. Our model favours Dumbarton at 42%. This is a fixture Edinburgh City have historically dominated: of eight senior meetings recorded since 1997/98, City have won six and Dumbarton just one, with a single draw. Dumbarton's rebuild continues under Frank McKeown, appointed in December 2025 as owner Mario Lapointe's man in the dugout.

Elgin City, top of League Two on four points from a win and a draw and the best goal difference in the division at plus five, host Kelty Hearts at Borough Briggs. Kelty sit sixth on three points with a goal difference of level. Our model gives Elgin a 42% chance. Kelty come into this fixture having been relegated from League One last season after finishing bottom of that division with 29 points, and are managed by Thomas O'Ware.

Forfar Athletic host Stirling Albion at Station Park sitting third on four points and a goal difference of plus one, with Stirling fourth on three points and the same goal difference. Our model favours Forfar at 40%. Forfar recovered to fourth in League Two last season under Jim Weir, in his second spell in charge since returning in November 2024, while Stirling appointed Steven Whittaker as manager on 10 May 2026 in place of the sacked Alan Maybury.
