Scottish League Two REVIEW 15 Aug 2026: Connell's Late Goal Downs Annan; Edinburgh City Rout Dumbarton

Clyde needed a piece of late magic from Kyle Connell to see off Annan Athletic at Galabank, his 89th-minute finish breaking a 1-1 deadlock and completing a 1-2 win. S. Williamson had put Clyde ahead in the first half before A. Smith levelled for Annan Athletic right on the stroke of half-time, and the game looked to be drifting towards a point apiece until Connell struck a minute from time. Our model had made Clyde only 38% favourites, and got the outcome right. Clyde arrived at Galabank looking to bounce back from a defeat of their own, having lost 1-0 at Dumbarton in the previous round. The two clubs had already met once this season, Clyde winning 4-1 in the Premier Sports Cup, and last term's league double was similarly one-sided: Clyde won 6-0 on their first visit to Galabank before the return finished 1-1.

Edinburgh City put three goals past Dumbarton at The Rock without reply. K. Foster opened the scoring inside four minutes, I. Lawson doubled the lead in the 34th, and M. Aiken added a third in the second half to make it Dumbarton 0-3 Edinburgh City.

Elgin City brushed aside Kelty Hearts 4-1 at Borough Briggs, with Kelty back in League Two after relegation from League One. K. Hester put Elgin ahead in the first half and L. Mackay made it two soon after the break, before R. Cole pulled one back for Kelty. Elgin finished it off with a quick-fire pair from R. Dingwall and J. MacIver in the closing stages. Our model had favoured Elgin at 42%, and it proved correct.

Forfar Athletic beat Stirling Albion 3-0 at Station Park, with A. Arnott opening the scoring after nine minutes, S. Shepherd doubling the lead just before half-time and A. Brown completing the win midway through the second half. Our model called Forfar at 40% and was proved right.

Stranraer's home game with The Spartans stayed goalless until the hour mark before M. McLuckie struck in the 69th minute to settle it, Stranraer 1-0 Spartans the final score at Stair Park.

Going into the round, Elgin City, The Spartans and Forfar Athletic had shared the pace at the top on four points apiece, with Stirling Albion, Clyde, Kelty Hearts, Annan Athletic and Dumbarton all on three, Edinburgh City ninth on a single point and Stranraer bottom without one.
