Scottish Premiership REVIEW 31 Jul 2026: Rose and Aasgaard share spoils as McInnes era begins with a draw

Dundee United and Rangers drew 1-1 in the 2026/27 William Hill Premiership season opener at Tannadice. Lachlan Rose opened the scoring at Tannadice, getting on the end of Jesse Randall's cutback. But Thelo Aasgaard smashed home an equaliser for Derek McInnes' side after the break. Randall had a late chance to win the match for the hosts but his effort was saved by Ivor Pandur.

Aasgaard's equaliser came on the midfielder's return from representing Norway at the World Cup 2026. The result represented an underwhelming start for new Rangers boss Derek McInnes, who came within minutes of winning the title with Hearts last season before replacing Danny Rohl as Gers head coach in June.

Lawrence Shankland, one of several summer arrivals from Hearts, started for Rangers. Dundee United haven't beaten Rangers at home in five years, a run this draw did not end, though the hosts avoided the heavier margins of recent meetings between the sides, including the 4-2 Rangers win when the two last met in April.
