St Johnstone beat Kilmarnock 4-3. J. Fowler put the hosts in front in the 16th minute and G. Kiltie levelled for Kilmarnock at 37'. C. Diabate restored the St Johnstone lead at 47', and Kilmarnock hit back twice: J. Hugill made it 2-2 at 49', and at 53' an own goal off J. Holt, credited to Kilmarnock, sent the visitors 3-2 in front.
St Johnstone turned it back again. A second own goal of the afternoon, this one off M. Schjonning-Larsen and credited to the hosts, brought the scores level at 69', and K. Fotheringham struck the winner at 80'. Diabate had been booked at 52', shortly after scoring, and J. Brandon went into the book for Kilmarnock at 83' as the visitors chased the game.
Motherwell won 2-1 away at Hibernian. L. Fadinger converted a penalty in the 40th minute to put the visitors in front. Hibernian levelled from the spot themselves at 56' through M. Boyle, with Motherwell's O. Priestman booked at 55'. Fadinger was booked at 68' and T. Sparrow at 76', and I. Said settled it at 85'.
Elsewhere, Dundee United and Rangers drew 1-1 on 31 July, St Mirren won 2-0 at Falkirk on 1 August and Aberdeen beat Hearts 2-1 the same day. Celtic beat Dundee 1-0 on 3 August, B. Nygren scoring at 52'.
