Scottish Premiership PREVIEW 8 Aug 2026: Aberdeen head to Dundee, St Mirren host Saints

Dundee host Aberdeen on Saturday having lost their opening fixture 1-0 at Celtic, B. Nygren scoring on 52. Round one left Dundee, Falkirk, Hearts, Hibernian and Kilmarnock without a point, and of those it is Dundee and Falkirk who have yet to score - Falkirk were beaten 2-0 at home by St Mirren. Aberdeen won their opener at home to Hearts. The model gives Aberdeen a 42% chance of victory. Dundee last played on 3 August, Aberdeen on 1 August.

Aberdeen's opening win was the strangest result of the round. Oisin McEntee put Hearts ahead on 35 and it stayed that way until the 90th minute, when Kevin Nisbet levelled and Lewis Mayo won it, with Stuart Findlay sent off for Hearts in the same minute. Dundee, by contrast, could not find a way past Celtic and came away with nothing but a late booking for A. Hay. The two sides meet again in the League Cup last 16 on 15 August, Aberdeen at home, which adds an edge to this weekend's league fixture.

St Mirren host St Johnstone, both having won their opening fixture. St Mirren won 2-0 away at Falkirk, Killian Phillips scoring on 11 and again on 87; St Johnstone beat Kilmarnock 4-3 at home. The model favours St Mirren at 40%. St Mirren last played on 1 August, St Johnstone on 2 August.

The two winning starts could hardly have been less alike. St Johnstone's swung back and forth: J. Fowler on 16, G. Kiltie levelling on 37, C. Diabate on 47, J. Hugill answering on 49, then J. Holt turning into his own net on 53 to put Kilmarnock 3-2 up, M. Schjonning-Larsen returning the favour with an own goal on 69, and K. Fotheringham settling it on 80. St Mirren's was the opposite: both goals from one player and nothing conceded. Only one of those afternoons can repeat itself here.
