Scottish Premiership REVIEW 8 Aug 2026: Westley and Bevan sink Aberdeen; Phillips penalty wins it for St Mirren

Dundee beat Aberdeen 2-0 at home, and they did it without ever looking like a side who had lost 1-0 at Celtic on 3 August. J. Westley put them ahead in the ninth minute and J. Bevan doubled it on 56. Aberdeen, who had beaten Hearts 2-1 at home the weekend before through Kevin Nisbet and Lewis Mayo, did not score.

It was a bad-tempered afternoon in the middle of the pitch rather than a chaotic one at either end. A. Briedl went into the book on 12, L. Mayo and S. Robinson in the same minute on 38, and J. Milne on 90. Dundee's name in the book was Westley's, cautioned on 44 in the same half in which he had scored.

St Mirren beat St Johnstone 1-0 on the only goal of a tight game. Killian Phillips scored it from the penalty spot on 73 minutes, the same man who had scored twice at Falkirk on 1 August, on 11 and on 87. St Johnstone had opened the season with a 4-3 win over Kilmarnock - J. Fowler on 16, C. Diabate on 47, an M. Schjonning-Larsen own goal on 69 and K. Fotheringham on 80 - but found nothing here.

Dundee scored twice, St Mirren once from twelve yards, and Aberdeen and St Johnstone did not score at all. The afternoon belonged to the sides who took the chance that arrived.
