EFL League One REVIEW 22 Aug 2026: Ten-Man Leicester Beaten by Burton as League One Sees Six Draws

Leicester City's rocky return to League One got worse as they went down 1-2 at home to Burton Albion, who led inside five minutes through Matthew Dennis and doubled it via Kgagelo Chauke before half an hour was up. Oliver Skipp was then sent off in the 29th minute, dismissed for a challenge on Burton's Curtis Tilt, and although Wes Burns pulled one back for Leicester just before the break, ten men could not find an equaliser. Manager Russell Martin's side were booed off at the King Power Stadium. Our model had correctly made Burton Albion favourites at 46%. The result leaves Leicester on a single point from two games, with Burton up to sixth on four.

There were goalless draws for Doncaster and Barnsley, and for Wimbledon and Reading. Our model had called the Doncaster-Barnsley stalemate at 34%, correctly. Down the road, Luton and Notts County shared four goals: N. Wells scored from the penalty spot to put Luton ahead, C. Roberts levelled for the visitors before the break, O. Cooper put County in front early in the second half, and C. Marshall completed the scoring for Luton in the 68th minute to make it 2-2.

Bromley and Cambridge also drew, 1-1, after B. Knight put the visitors ahead in the 67th minute and V. Adeboyejo equalised for the hosts with nine minutes left; our model had this one at 34% for the draw, correct again. MK Dons and Huddersfield finished 1-1 too, J. Taylor scoring early for Huddersfield before A. Collins levelled in the 54th minute for the home side.

Peterborough beat Mansfield 2-1, B. Woods opening the scoring five minutes into the second half, M. Smith equalising for Mansfield ten minutes later, and H. Leonard settling it with a 90th-minute winner. Our model had favoured Peterborough at 38%, correctly. Oxford United won 2-1 away at Stevenage: G. O'Donkor broke the deadlock with just over twenty minutes left, C. Brannagan added a penalty in the 87th minute, and J. Roberts' stoppage-time reply for Stevenage came too late. The model had backed Oxford at 47%.

Blackpool won 2-1 at Stockport, T. Bloxham scoring in the 22nd minute and J. Bowler in the 40th to put the visitors two up by half-time before M. Mandron pulled one back for Stockport in the 90th minute; the model had Blackpool at 41%, correct. Leyton Orient won 2-0 away at Wigan through T. Springett in the first half and Y. Akhamrich after the break, a result the model called for Orient at 45%. Wigan remain bottom of the table without a win from two games, while Orient move up to 11th.

Wycombe and Plymouth drew 1-1, W. Evans putting Plymouth ahead in the first half before C. Taylor equalised for Wycombe with just over a quarter of an hour left.
