AFC Wimbledon won 2-0 at Bromley on Monday night, and the BBC's full-time verdict framed what it meant for both ends of the short trip across south London: "Wimbledon pick up their first away points of the season by winning a London derby! Johnnie Jackson's side are worthy victors, opening the scoring through Jayden Stockley's first-half header from James Tilley's super cross. Myles Hippolyte then stylishly collected Stockley's incisive pass to fire in and seal the points midway through the second half. Bromley suffer three straight defeats for the first time in their brief EFL history." Stockley's opener came in the 8th minute — "James Tilley whips in a wonderful delivery from the right, finding the unmarked Jayden Stockley to power a header past Shamal George via the goalkeeper's fingertips" — and it was, in the BBC's words, "Jayden Stockley's second goal in as many games." Hippolyte's clincher arrived in the 67th, from Stockley's pass, and Sky Sports pundit Dave Edwards called it the night's hinge: "Wimbledon really needed that second goal. Bromley were just starting to build that pressure. Jayden Stockley picks out Myles Hippolyte and his first touch is excellent." Minutes earlier Joe Bursik — making "his first start for the club" seventeen years after starting his youth career at Wimbledon — had preserved the lead, beating away Kamil Conteh's deflected volley.
For Bromley the night deepened a bruising run: per the BBC, "Bromley's 17-month unbeaten home run came to an end in comprehensive fashion last time out, losing 5-0 to Leyton Orient on 1 September", and Andy Woodman had said beforehand: "It's not going too well at the moment. We've got to grow up a bit quicker and make sure we become tougher and more aggressive than we are in everything we do." His side then lost goalkeeper Shamal George and full debutant Deon Woodman to injury in a single first-half stoppage, with James Tilley also going off injured for the visitors. Deadline-day signing Jodi Jones, advertised to fans before the game, "is not named in their squad." Wimbledon had arrived off a 4-1 defeat at Burton with Jackson asking, "what is the difference between playing at home and playing here?" — answered emphatically in front of 5,017 at the Copperjax Community Stadium, a ground with a place in the away side's origin story: "AFC scored their first ever goal as a new club at Hayes Lane, back in 2002 in a friendly game." Edwards's parting line gave each manager his ledger: "It was a well-thought up gameplan from Johnnie Jackson and they were by far the better team throughout the 90 minutes... A lot to think about for Andy Woodman."
