Four matches, two of them decided and two of them level, and the afternoon's clearest verdict came at Tottenham Hotspur, where Newcastle United won 2-0 without ever looking troubled. Elanga opened the scoring on 62 minutes and Wissa added the second ten minutes later, both after the interval, both from a Newcastle side that had spent the first hour keeping the game where it wanted it. Spurs had three changes on by the 68th minute and another at 75, and none of them changed the shape of it.
Anfield was the opposite kind of match. Liverpool twice found themselves behind and twice came back: Ndoye put Nottingham Forest ahead on 24 minutes, Isak levelled on the hour, Gibbs-White restored the visitors' lead from the penalty spot on 70, and Munoz — booked himself on 54 — equalised on 82 for 2-2. Alisson was cautioned on 69 minutes, one of seven bookings in a match that never settled into anybody's control.
Bournemouth had their point taken off them at the very end. Scott, who had been booked at 21, put them ahead four minutes before half time and it stayed 1-0 through a second half in which both managers emptied the bench — six substitutions between them after the hour. Tarkowski equalised for Everton on 90 minutes. It finished 1-1, and Bournemouth will feel the difference between that and what they had for eighty-nine of the ninety.
Coventry City 0-1 Hull City was settled by a substitute. Millar came on at 59 minutes and scored at 82, the only goal of a match that had already seen five Hull bookings and a double change at half time. Coventry made four substitutions of their own in the last half hour and did not find a way through.
So the day's four fixtures produced two draws, two clean sheets, and one away win of real authority. Newcastle are the side who leave with the most to be pleased about; Liverpool leave with a point they had to fight for twice over, and Bournemouth with one they had almost stopped fighting for.
