Arbroath host Livingston at Gayfield with the away end doing the talking before kick-off: travel is free for Livingston supporters and the club has added a fifth supporters' coach after demand. Livingston arrive from a 2-0 home win over Dunfermline Athletic, a week after losing 2-0 to Partick Thistle, which is the shape of their season so far — one result contradicting the last. Arbroath's is the harder task on paper and the easier journey by some distance.

Partick Thistle against Queen's Park at Firhill brings together two clubs from the same city, and Thistle come in from a 1-1 draw away at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Mark Wilson and the defender Cale Loughrey both recorded pre-match previews on Friday, which at this level is the closest thing to a team-news briefing a reader gets. Stenhousemuir against Inverness Caledonian Thistle is the long trip in the other direction: Inverness, whose last match was that draw with Partick, take their support to Ochilview, where the away end is the Donald Smillie Enclosure and the club has published its prices in advance — twenty-four pounds for adults, seventeen for over-67s, eight for under-16s.

Ayr United against Greenock Morton at Somerset Park completes the card, and Gary Naysmith has recorded his pre-match interview for the club's own channel. Ayr's week had a cup shape to it before this: their Ayrshire derby with Kilmarnock in the Premier Sports Cup produced five goals and sent Kilmarnock through to a quarter-final at Rugby Park.

None of the four fixtures carries a European hangover or a transfer saga, which is the point of a Championship Saturday in late August: four matches at 15:00, all of them decided by who has recovered from Tuesday and who has not. The clearest fact any of these clubs has to work with is that Livingston will bring a crowd to a ground with the sea behind one goal, and that Inverness will have travelled a long way to a small one.
