The model backed Livingston at home, and the night belonged entirely to the visitors. Stenhousemuir won 1-0, Andrew Shinnie scoring against his former club in the 14th minute after good pressing from Mikey Anderson and Lewis O'Donnell, and Marvin Bartley left the ground he managed last season with the points.

Livingston had most of the ball for the rest of the evening and could not turn it into a goal; the closest they came was a Scott Bright block on the line from Bruce Anderson in the 52nd, and the frustration showed in a clutch of bookings for Emmanuel Danso, Sam Culbert, Robbie Muirhead and Liam Polworth.

The subplots all ran Stenhousemuir's way. Shinnie had joined only on 7 August, weeks before scoring the winner here. Bartley, back for the first league meeting since he and assistant Neil Hastings resigned in the summer after being asked to reapply for their jobs, had promised to be at loggerheads with the home bench while keeping his respect for the club. And it was not even the first time his side had beaten Livingston this season: the clubs drew 0-0 in the Premier Sports Cup group stage in July, Stenhousemuir winning the shootout, and the newly promoted part-timers did it again.
