Scottish League One REVIEW 22 Aug 2026: Ross County Stay Perfect, Hamilton Held as Queens Slump

Ross County came from nowhere near trouble to leave Airdrieonians with all three points, winning 3-1 at the Excelsior Stadium to stay unbeaten in League One. A. Emslie put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute and J. Lindsay doubled it eight minutes later, and although L. Gibson pulled one back for the hosts just after the interval, A. Wright restored the two-goal cushion in the 74th minute. Our model had made Ross County only 44% favourites, and they came through regardless. The result leaves John Rankin's Airdrieonians without a win in four league games, second bottom on two points, while Ross County sit second on nine points from just three matches, still owed their rearranged meeting with Queen of the South.

At the top, Hamilton were held goalless away to East Fife, a result that stretches their unbeaten start to League One but denies them a fourth win in four. It leaves Hamilton top on ten points, one clear of Ross County despite the extra game played, with East Fife fifth on five.

Cove Rangers beat Peterhead 3-0 at Balmoral Stadium, all three goals coming after the break: J. Teasdale opened the scoring in the 48th minute before J. White and E. Oppong added further goals in the closing stages. Our model gave Cove Rangers a 54% chance and it played out that way. Peterhead's defeat leaves them fifth with six points, while Cove climb to seventh.

Montrose picked up their first win of the season, beating East Kilbride 3-0 at Links Park. G. Oliver scored twice inside the opening 41 minutes, the first from the penalty spot, before H. Craig added a third early in the second half. The model had favoured Montrose at only 42%, and the win lifts them off the bottom two, though they remain eighth on three points. East Kilbride, beaten for the first time this season, drop to third with seven points, level with Alloa.

Queen of the South's poor start continued as they lost 2-0 at home to Alloa, J. Walker and K. Glasgow scoring within eight minutes of each other in the second half. Our model had Alloa as 39% favourites. Queens remain bottom of League One without a point from three matches, while Alloa move up to fourth on seven.
