Scottish League Two PREVIEW 22 Aug 2026: League Two: Elgin top the table as Forfar visit Clyde

Two of the early pace-setters meet at New Douglas Park as Clyde host Forfar Athletic. Forfar sit second on seven points from three games with a goal difference of four, while Clyde are third on six points after two wins and a defeat. Despite Forfar's better start, our model favours home side Clyde at 41%. The fixture carries some history for Clyde: they lost last season's League Two promotion play-off final to Hamilton Academical 5-4 on aggregate, having drawn the first leg 1-1 before conceding four at New Douglas Park in the return. Forfar, meanwhile, finished fourth in League Two last season under Jim Weir, back for a second spell in charge since returning in November 2024, and head into this weekend having endured a rough Premier Sports Cup group campaign that included an 0-8 defeat to Livingston.

Elgin City lead the table after three games, on seven points and with the division's best goal difference at plus eight, and make the trip to Ainslie Park to face Spartans with the model actually favouring the visitors at 48%. Spartans, fourth on four points after a win, a draw and a defeat, are still readjusting to League Two life after finishing runners-up last season and losing their own promotion play-off semi-final to Clyde. Elgin's bright start comes under new manager Stefan Laird, appointed in May, and follows the club's fresh cooperation agreement with Ross County, through which Calum Brown and Lewis MacKay arrived on season-long loans.

Edinburgh City host Annan Athletic at Meadowbank with both sides level on results after mixed starts — City fifth with four points from a win, a draw and a defeat, Annan just below on three points from a single win. The model gives Annan a narrow edge at 39%. The clubs have met 32 times since 1997/98 with City ahead 15 wins to 12 and five draws. Annan arrive having lost all four of their Premier Sports Cup group games in July, while Edinburgh City are still rebuilding after last season's 15-point insolvency deduction, which was only overturned in the sense that they survived the resulting pyramid play-off against Brora Rangers.

At the bottom of the table, Kelty host Dumbarton at New Central Park with both sides on three points from three games. Kelty, playing their first season back in League Two after relegation from League One, are managed by Thomas O'Ware. Dumbarton travel under Frank McKeown, appointed in December 2025, and after a summer that saw the club's first artificial pitch laid at The Rock under new owner Mario Lapointe. The model makes Kelty favourites at 48%.

Stirling host Stranraer at Forthbank in a meeting of two sides also on three points from three games. Stirling are under new manager Steven Whittaker, appointed in May 2026 alongside a fresh cooperation agreement with Dunfermline Athletic, while Stranraer's Chris Aitken has brought in loan pair Lewis Gillie and Zach Bruce from Hibernian as part of his own cooperation deal. The model favours Stirling at 48%.
