Forfar Athletic travel to Edinburgh City on Friday night with something other than the league on their minds. Their Scottish Challenge Cup tie at Formartine United on Tuesday was abandoned with Forfar leading 1-0 after the defender Adam Livingstone suffered a serious neck injury in an aerial collision. He was treated on the pitch, an ambulance was called, and he was reported to be awake and responsive when he left. Everything else about the week is secondary to that, and the tie will have to be replayed or resolved another day.

Edinburgh City come in off a 1-0 win over Annan Athletic, and with the steadiest hand in this division: Michael McIndoe has been in charge since October 2023, which makes him the longest-serving of a run of managers who each lasted between one and three and a half years. Their ground record in the recent past is worth knowing before predicting anything about a Friday night in League Two: 5-0 home wins over Dumbarton in May 2026 and The Spartans in February 2025 sit alongside an 0-8 defeat at Ross County in the League Cup in July 2025 and an 0-6 at home to Partick Thistle in the same competition the year before.

Forfar's own high-water marks are older and better. They won the Second Division in 1983/84 and the Third Division in 1994/95, and the result the club is still known for came on 3 August 2013, when Forfar beat Rangers 2-1 at Station Park in the first round of the League Cup, Gavin Swankie scoring both. Jim Weir is in his second spell as manager, back since November 2024.

One caution about the histories, since both clubs invite the confusion. The Edinburgh City that plays now was founded in 1966 as Postal United and took the name in 1986 from an earlier club of that name, which played between 1928 and 1955 and is a different institution entirely: East Fife's record 13-2 win in December 1937 was against the original, not this one. And Forfar Athletic are the Loons of Angus, founded in 1885, not to be confused with anyone else on a team sheet this weekend.
