Scottish League Two REVIEW 28 Aug 2026: Jordan McGregor equalises, Foster misses from the spot, and Edinburgh City draw with Forfar

Edinburgh City and Forfar Athletic drew 1-1, and the twelve minutes between the 68th and the 80th held everything in it. Scott Shepherd put Forfar ahead on 68 from a Jack Wyllie assist. Jordan McGregor equalised on 77. Three minutes later Edinburgh City had the chance to lead and Foster missed the penalty, and the game finished as it stood.

It was a bad-tempered hour before any of that. Aiden Haddow was booked on 19, McGregor himself on 40, Aron Lynas on 53 and Innes Lawson on 74, and after the penalty went Callum Brodie was booked on 86 and Euan Glasgow on 88 — Glasgow having come on as early as 39 minutes. Edinburgh City also used Tommy North on 62 and Bunker alongside Brodie on 81; Forfar answered with Adam Brown on 63 and Callum Wilson on 83.

Forfar arrived carrying something heavier than a league fixture. Their Scottish Challenge Cup tie at Formartine United on Tuesday was abandoned with Forfar leading 1-0 after the defender Adam Livingstone suffered a serious neck injury in an aerial collision; he was treated on the pitch, an ambulance was called, and he was reported to have left conscious and responsive. The tie will have to be replayed or resolved another day, and everything else about the week sits behind that.

Two clubs that invite confusion, so it is worth saying plainly which ones these are. The Edinburgh City playing now was founded in 1966 as Postal United and took the name in 1986 from an earlier club that existed between 1928 and 1955 and is a completely separate institution — East Fife's record 13-2 win in December 1937 was against the original, not this one. Forfar Athletic are the Loons of Angus, founded in 1885, winners of the Second Division in 1983/84 and the Third Division in 1994/95, and still known for beating Rangers 2-1 at Station Park in the League Cup first round on 3 August 2013, with Gavin Swankie scoring both.
