Two quarter-final places went on Saturday, and only one of the ties looked settled at any point. Hibernian won 3-0 at Ross County and were three ahead inside forty minutes. Aberdeen and Kilmarnock needed penalties.
Hibernian made Dingwall look straightforward. Thibault Klidje scored in the seventh minute, Adam Mayor added a penalty in the fourteenth, and Ante Suto made it three in the thirty-ninth. Ross County did not score.
At Rugby Park the tie turned on an hour that had everything. Kevin Nisbet put Aberdeen ahead in the fifty-second minute. Daniel Happe was sent off in the fifty-seventh. Tyreece John-Jules levelled for Kilmarnock in the fifty-eighth, and that is where the football finished: 1-1, and a shootout.
Aberdeen won it 3-1 on penalties. Joe Hugill scored Kilmarnock's, and Alexander Briedl, Ayoub Mouloua and Jack Milne converted for Aberdeen. Aberdeen go through; Kilmarnock are out having been eleven minutes from the same thing.
Both winners join Hearts, who beat Stenhousemuir on Friday, and whoever comes through Rangers against Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday. The semi-final draw follows that tie.
