Rangers 3, Celtic 0, and a place in the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup. The last of the four quarter-finals was the one everybody had circled and it was over well before the end.

Daniel Neil opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, finishing from close range after Kevin Kelsy had cut the ball back. Kelsy scored the second himself in the 59th, and Neil took the third in the 75th. Neil joined Rangers on a free from Sunderland on 1 July; Kelsy arrived on deadline day for a reported 9.2 million pounds and was playing in his first Old Firm match.

Derek McInnes was appointed Rangers manager on 17 June, replacing Danny Rohl, and this was the first win of his against Celtic in charge at Ibrox. He had spoken beforehand about needing the ground behind his side rather than expecting to dominate: a fair reading of the way it went, except that Rangers did dominate.

Celtic were pressed man for man and could not get out. Martin O'Neill, confirmed as permanent manager in June, changed it at the interval, Haissem Hassan replacing Sebastian Tounekti, and again in the 64th minute, James Forrest and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming on for Kasper Hogh and Benjamin Nygren. Jordan Lotomba made his Celtic debut in place of Kieran Tierney. None of it moved the game.

The bookings tell their own story of a side chasing it: Nygren in the nineteenth, Colby Donovan in the 27th, Hassan in the 79th within a quarter of an hour of coming on. Rangers picked up two, Olwethu Makhanya in the 48th and James Penrice in the 78th.

Ibrox was without away supporters, so the noise was entirely one-sided, and by the time Bojan Miovski came on in the 87th minute there was nothing left to settle. The semi-final draw was made straight after the whistle.
