Three Scottish Premiership matches, and two were settled by the video review. At Pittodrie, Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 for their first league win of the season. Lawrence Shankland put away a penalty on 69 minutes, driven into the top corner, after Aberdeen's Dan Happe brought down Djeidi Gassama in the box. Aberdeen thought they had levelled through Kevin Nisbet on 83, but VAR ruled it out for a push by Nisbet on Dujon Sterling as he rose for the header. Derek McInnes called himself "just really satisfied" and said the win, coming days after a midweek European exit on penalties to Jablonec, needed to "become a habit"; Stephen Robinson said the key moments went against Aberdeen and that he could control how his side defended but not the decisions.

Hibernian won 2-1 at Dundee for a second straight league victory, and made it look a professional response to their own European defeat, a 3-2 loss at Gent, three days earlier. Martin Boyle ran onto a Grant Hanley pass and finished on 25 minutes, the goal checked for offside and allowed to stand. Callum Wright doubled it on 61 with a low finish from Felix Passlack's cut-back. Dundee pulled one back on 83 when a long-range free-kick struck the bar and Joe Westley turned in the rebound, but no more came. David Gray said his players got "exactly what they deserved"; Steven Pressley conceded Hibernian "certainly deserved to win". Hibernian handed a debut to the Manchester United loanee Jacob Devaney.

St Mirren 3-3 Motherwell in Paisley was the loudest of the three, and its shape was a first-half turned on its head. Tawanda Maswanhise put Motherwell ahead inside two minutes and Regan Charles-Cook made it two around the half-hour. Then St Mirren scored three times in nine minutes before the break: Paul Nsio on 39, Declan John on 44 and Samuel Ramos in stoppage time, and led 3-2 at the interval. Motherwell had spurned the chance to go further ahead when Jacob Chapman saved Maswanhise's first-half penalty and Charles-Cook could not convert the rebound. The last word went to Motherwell's Jardell Kanga, a debutant signed two days earlier, who volleyed in an equaliser in stoppage time to make it 3-3.
