Atlètic Club d'Escaldes
Also written as Atletic Escaldes.
The club
Atlètic Club d'Escaldes were founded on 20 May 2002 in Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra, and joined the Segona Divisió in their first season. They won that division in 2003-04 and were promoted, stayed in the Primera Divisió for three seasons, and were relegated after 2006-07. The club spent more than a decade back in the second tier before winning the 2018-19 Segona Divisió and returning to the top flight in 2019.
Atlètic Club d'Escaldes must not be confused with Inter Club d'Escaldes, a separate club also based in Escaldes-Engordany. The two are distinct entities with different founding dates and different histories: Inter Club d'Escaldes were founded in 1991, more than a decade before Atlètic, and by 2026 had won five Primera Divisió titles (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2024-25 and 2025-26), three Copa Constitució titles and four Supercopa Andorrana titles, becoming the first Andorran club to reach the league phase of a UEFA competition. Atlètic Club d'Escaldes have one Primera Divisió title, from 2022-23. Inter play in blue and black, known to their own supporters as the "blau-i-negres", while Atlètic's traditional colour is blue, worn originally in yellow-and-blue stripes from the club's founding until a kit and badge redesign around 2015 moved the club to a plain blue design; sources disagree on whether the club also had a spell in garnet, and that detail was not confirmed here. No source read for this dossier documented a rivalry, shared ownership or any other connection between the two clubs beyond sharing the same town.
Andorra has no purpose-built club stadiums of the kind seen elsewhere in Europe; domestic and continental home matches for Atlètic Club d'Escaldes are played at Andorran Football Federation facilities, specifically the Centre d'Entrenament de la FAF in Andorra la Vella. The current head coach is Dani Luque; the club's managerial history before him, including when Federico Bessone's spell in charge began and ended, was not established from the sources read here. The chairman was given in one source as Petra Schellens, but that detail could not be cross-checked against a second source.
Recent seasons
In their first spell in the top division Atlètic finished seventh in 2004-05 with 15 points from 20 matches, sixth in 2005-06 with 28 points, and eighth in 2006-07 with 15 points, before relegation. Back in the Primera Divisió from 2019, they were sixth in 2019-20 with 30 points from 24 matches, fourth in 2020-21 with 25 points from 20 matches, and fourth again in 2021-22 with 43 points from 27 matches. In 2022-23 they won the league for the first time, finishing top with 63 points from 28 matches, 19 wins, 6 draws and 3 defeats, 68 goals scored and only 19 conceded. Their placings in the two seasons since were not established from the sources read here beyond the fact that they continued to qualify for the Copa Constitució final in most years.
