Barnet
The club
Barnet were founded in 1888 and play at the Hive Stadium in Edgware, which holds 6,500, of which 5,419 are seated. They are the Bees and play in amber and black.
Recent seasons
Barnet spent most of the period in the National League, having been relegated from League Two in 2017/18. They were fifth in 2022/23 and second in 2023/24. In 2024/25 they won the National League title with 102 points and went up as champions.
The 2025/26 season was their first back in the English Football League since 2017/18, and it was a good one. They finished eighth in League Two with 76 points from 46 games, a record of 21 wins, 13 draws and 12 defeats, 70 goals scored and 53 conceded, one place and two points outside the play-off places: seventh-placed Grimsby Town took the last one on 78. The start was poor, with 2-0 defeats by Fleetwood Town and Bromley, but home form carried them, including a 4-0 win over Bristol Rovers and a 3-0 win over Grimsby Town on 20 September 2025 in which Lee Ndlovu scored a hat-trick. They reached the first round of the FA Cup, entered the EFL Cup at the preliminary round against Newport County and went out of the EFL Trophy at the group stage.
Honours and landmarks
Barnet have won the Conference or National League four times, in 1990/91, 2004/05, 2014/15 and 2024/25, which is the club's defining achievement and the reason they have spent so much of their modern history moving between the fourth tier and non-league football. They won the Southern League Division One in 1965/66 and 1976/77, the FA Amateur Cup in 1945/46 and the Conference League Cup in 1988/89. They were FA Trophy runners-up in 1971/72. The Herts Senior Cup has been won 19 times, the London Senior Cup three times, in 1937/38, 1940/41 and 1946/47, and the Middlesex Senior Cup three times, in 1931/32, 1932/33 and 2021/22. Their highest Football League finish is third in Division Three in 1992/93.
The record attendance is 11,026 against Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Amateur Cup in 1951/52, set at the old Underhill ground rather than the Hive. The record fee received is £800,000, paid by Crystal Palace for Dougie Freedman.
Notable scorelines
The record victory is 10-0 against Burton Albion on 7 February 1970. The record defeat is 1-9 against Peterborough United on 5 September 1998.
Head-to-head notes
No published all-time head-to-head record was established for any of Barnet's 2026/27 League Two opponents. The club does not publish such records on its own site, and none were found elsewhere. This is partly a function of history: Barnet's long spells outside the Football League mean many League Two clubs have only a handful of competitive meetings with them, most of those in the last twenty years.
Right now (2026/27)
Dean Brennan is the head coach, appointed in 2021, and has now taken the club from the National League to a near-miss in the League Two play-offs.
The summer recruitment was broad and mostly free of fees. Isiah Noel-Williams, a forward, arrived from Hemel Hempstead Town on 18 June 2026 for an undisclosed fee, and Jack Maskell, also a forward, from Darlington on 19 June. On 1 July the club announced five signings at once: goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond from Stevenage on a free transfer, Brandon Comley and Charlie Lakin both from Walsall, Craig Farquhar from Crystal Palace and Zac Williams from Crewe Alexandra, along with the winger Tom Knowles from Forest Green Rovers. Will Wright, a centre-back, followed from Swindon Town on 10 July. Going the other way, Ryan Glover joined Stockport County on 15 June for an undisclosed fee, goalkeeper Joe Wright went to Billericay Town on 23 June, goalkeeper Owen Evans to Altrincham on 1 July and Joe Rye to Tamworth on 11 July.
Pre-season ran long: 8-3 against Southall on 4 July, 2-0 at Hitchin Town on 7 July, 2-1 at Hemel Hempstead on 11 July, then four matches against higher-division opposition at the Hive that produced 2-2 with Watford on 14 July, 2-2 with Luton Town on 18 July, a 2-1 defeat by Oxford United on 25 July and 0-0 with MK Dons on 28 July.
Barnet were drawn at home to Cambridge United of League One in the first round of the EFL Cup, to be played on 8 August 2026; the draw was made on a regionalised basis on 25 June 2026. The League Two season opens at home to Salford City on Saturday 15 August 2026 at 15:00.
