Clyde

The club

Clyde were founded in 1877 and are the Bully Wee, playing in white and blue. They are a Glasgow club without a Glasgow ground. They began at Barrowfield Park on the river in the east end from 1877 to 1898, moved across the water to Shawfield Stadium in Rutherglen from 1899 to 1986, then ground-shared at Firhill with Partick Thistle from 1986 to 1991 and at Douglas Park with Hamilton Academical from 1991 to 1994, before settling at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld from 1994. In April 2022 the club announced they would leave Broadwood at the end of that season, and since 2022/23 they have ground-shared with Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park, which holds 6,018, with the stated intention of eventually relocating to a home back in Glasgow. That remains where they play in 2026/27; no new ground has been announced in anything read here. Commercially the club retains its Cumbernauld ties: The Tyre Station Cumbernauld became back-of-home-shirt sponsor on 30 July 2026.

Recent seasons

Clyde were second in League Two in 2018/19 with 74 points and went up. Three difficult seasons in League One followed: seventh with 34 points in 2019/20 and eighth with 26 in 2020/21, both campaigns curtailed by the pandemic, then eighth with 39 points in 2021/22 and ninth with 24 points in 2022/23, which sent them down.

The recovery has been steady. Ninth in League Two in 2023/24 with 38 points, seventh in 2024/25 with 43, and then third in 2025/26 with 56 points from 36 games: 14 wins, 14 draws, 8 defeats, 58 goals scored and 41 conceded. That took them into the promotion play-offs, where they beat The Spartans 3-1 on aggregate, 2-0 at home on 5 May 2026 and 1-1 away on 9 May, before losing the final to Hamilton Academical. Clyde drew the first leg 1-1 at home on 12 May and lost the second 4-3 at New Douglas Park on 15 May, going out 5-4 on aggregate. Hamilton, who had finished ninth in League One, kept their place; Clyde stayed in League Two.

Honours and landmarks

Clyde have won the Scottish Cup three times, all in the Shawfield era: 1939, beating Motherwell 4-0; 1955, beating Celtic 1-0 in a replay; and 1958, beating Hibernian 1-0. They were beaten finalists three times, losing a replay 3-2 to Dundee in 1910 after a 2-2 draw, 2-0 to Celtic in 1912, and 4-1 to Rangers in 1949. Their league titles are all at second-tier or third-tier level: Division Two in 1904/05, Division B in 1951/52, and Division Two again in 1956/57, 1972/73, 1977/78, 1981/82 and 1992/93. They reached the Challenge Cup final in 2006, drawing 1-1 after extra time and losing the shootout 5-4.

Record attendance is 52,000 against Rangers at Shawfield in 1908, a figure that still stands and dwarfs anything possible at their present home. In the club's first league match, in 1891, they beat Vale of Leven 10-3. All-time record win and record defeat figures are not published in anything read here and are not established.

Notable scorelines

The 10-3 against Vale of Leven in 1891 is the biggest score found. The three Scottish Cup finals are the club's landmark results: 4-0 against Motherwell in 1939, 1-0 against Celtic in the 1955 replay and 1-0 against Hibernian in 1958. From last season, the 4-3 defeat at Hamilton on 15 May 2026, losing a play-off final on aggregate having drawn the first leg, is the result that defines where the club now sits. Head-to-head notes

No all-time head-to-head records are published by Clyde or found elsewhere, so none are established here. The 2026/27 League Two field is Annan Athletic, Clyde, Dumbarton, Edinburgh City, Elgin City, Forfar Athletic, Kelty Hearts, Stirling Albion, Stranraer and The Spartans. Kelty Hearts come down from League One, replacing East Kilbride, who went up as champions. Clyde have played all of the others in the last two seasons. The most recent meetings that can be stated precisely are the play-off semi-final against The Spartans on 5 and 9 May 2026, won 3-1 on aggregate, and the Premier Sports Cup group win over Annan Athletic on 21 July 2026, 4-1 at home. Clyde's trips in that cup group were notable for their rarity: the club recorded the visit to Dingwall to face Ross County on 18 July as their first in 17 years, and the trip to Dens Park to face Dundee on 25 July as their first since 2009.

Right now (2026/27)

Darren Young has been manager since October 2024; no more precise appointment date is published in what was read. On 29 July 2026 the club entered a co-operation agreement with Dundee United for the season.

Squad turnover was heavy but the core was retained. Kyle Fleming, Craig Howie and Darren Hynes signed new deals on 27 May 2026, Kyle Connell, Logan Dunachie and Scott Williamson on 28 May, and Barry Cuddihy extended for a tenth season on 1 June. Sam Campbell, James Hilton and Andy Murdoch were among those to leave at the end of the season, announced on 24 May. Jay Hogarth's contract expired and he joined Falkirk on 15 June, then returned to Clyde on a season-long loan from Falkirk on 28 June. Liam Scullion left on 26 June after four seasons.

The signings were nearly all young and on one-year deals: attacking midfielder Jamie Bradley on 7 June, left-back Lewis Lovering on 9 June, Nathan Cannon from Forfar Athletic on 15 June, winger Timam Scott on 30 June, midfielder Bruce Strachan, aged 19, on 14 July, striker Thomas Cruden, 26, on 15 July, 18-year-old Bobby Kiltie from EMC Academy on 18 July, and 22-year-old centre-back Chris Inglis on 25 July. Liam Rooney joined on loan from Partick Thistle on 10 July until January.

Pre-season brought a 2-1 defeat to Dunfermline Athletic on 27 June, a 3-1 loss to Queen's Park in the Glasgow Cup on 30 June and a 3-1 defeat to Rutherglen Glencairn on 4 July in a match marking the burgh's 900th anniversary. In Premier Sports Cup Group D, Clyde beat Airdrieonians 1-0 on 14 July, Kyle Connell scoring against his former club, lost 3-1 at Ross County on 18 July, beat Annan Athletic 4-1 at home on 21 July and lost 4-0 at Dundee on 25 July. Six points left them third in the group behind Ross County, who qualified, and Dundee. The League Two season opens at home to Stranraer on Saturday 1 August 2026 at 3pm.
