The club
Foussballclub Differdange 03 were formed in 2003 by the merger of two clubs from the steel town of Differdange in the south-west of Luxembourg: FA Red Boys Differdange and AS Differdange. Red Boys had been the dominant force in Luxembourg football for much of the twentieth century, winning the Luxembourg Cup more times than any other club and, between 1923 and 1936, taking thirteen trophies in thirteen years, a record no Luxembourg club has matched since. The merged club took over Red Boys' place in the pyramid and reached the National Division, the country's top flight, in 2005-06. There is no other Differdange-named club active in the Luxembourg pyramid to confuse this one with; the "03" in the name simply marks the year of the merger.
