The club
DAC were founded in 1904 in what was then Dunaszerdahely in Hungary, as the Dunaszerdahelyi Atlétikai Club. The town is now Dunajská Streda in south-western Slovakia, and the club is closely identified with, and supported by, the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. Home is the ground opened in 2019 and known through most of its short life as the MOL Aréna, which holds 12,700; for the 2026-27 season Wikipedia's league page lists it as the DAC Aréna, and the club's own recent match information still uses MOL Aréna, so the naming appears to be in transition. The club plays in yellow. Oszkár Világi owns 90 per cent, the town of Dunajská Streda the other ten; Tibor Végh is president.
Recent seasons
DAC have been a fixture near the top of the Slovak league without winning it. They were second in 2020-21 with 65 points, fourth in 2021-22 with 46, second in 2022-23 with 67, second in 2023-24 with 58, fourth in 2024-25 with 51 and second again in 2025-26 with 58 points from 32 matches, 17 wins, 7 draws and 8 defeats, scoring 55 and conceding 34. Slovan Bratislava took an eighth consecutive title in 2025-26, sealing it against DAC on 2 May 2026. DAC reached the Slovak Cup quarter-finals in 2025-26, as they had in 2023-24.
The 2025-26 European campaign never happened. UEFA excluded DAC from the 2025-26 Conference League under the multi-club ownership rule, because Világi also owned Győri ETO, who had qualified through the Hungarian league. Világi said on 1 July 2025 that the decision was wrong and that the club would go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Honours and landmarks
DAC won the Czechoslovak Cup and the Slovak Cup in 1987, and the 1.SNL, the Slovak national league inside Czechoslovakia, in 1984-85. They have been runners-up in the Slovak top flight five times: 2018-19, 2020-21, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2025-26. They won the Slovak second division in 1998-99 and 2012-13. They were third in the Czechoslovak First League in 1987-88 and third in the Slovak Superliga in 1993-94.
The club has become a selling club of some note. Nikola Krstović went to Lecce in 2023 for a reported 4.5 million euros, with a further 3.6 million following his move to Atalanta in 2025; András Schäfer went to Union Berlin in 2022, Ľubomír Šatka to Lech Poznań in 2019 and Vakoun Issouf Bayo to Celtic in 2019.
Notable scorelines
The most striking European result in the club's history is the 6-0 win over Östers IF at home in Dunajská Streda on 5 October 1988, in the first round of the 1988-89 UEFA Cup, which turned a 0-2 defeat in Växjö into a 6-2 aggregate win. That took DAC into a second round against Bayern Munich, lost 1-3 in Munich and 0-2 at home. The heaviest European defeat is 0-7 away to LASK in the third qualifying round of the 2020-21 Europa League, a single-leg tie. In the preliminary round of the 1987-88 Cup Winners' Cup DAC won both legs against AEL Limassol, 1-0 in Cyprus and 5-1 at home.

Europa League 2020-21, in single-leg format: beat FH 2-0 away, beat Jablonec 5-3 after extra time at home, then lost 0-7 at LASK. Conference League 2021-22: out to Partizan 0-3 in the second qualifying round. Conference League 2022-23: past Cliftonville 5-1 and Víkingur Gøta 4-0, out to FCSB 0-2. Robert Klauß, a German, was appointed head coach on 5 June 2026, two days after Branislav Fodrek left the job on 3 June. Taras Kačaraba is the captain. Ammar Ramadan was the club's top scorer in each of the last two seasons with eleven league goals.
The Slovak season began on 25-26 July 2026. After two rounds, updated to 9 August, DAC had four points from a 2-0 home win over Dukla Banská Bystrica and a 1-1 draw at Ružomberok, and stood fifth.
In Europe, DAC entered the Conference League at the second qualifying round and beat Velež Mostar 4-0 on aggregate: 1-0 at home on 23 July 2026 through a Giorgi Gagua penalty on 59 minutes before 4,923, then 3-0 in Zenica on 30 July, Ammar Ramadan scoring on 22 and 38 minutes and Abdoulaye Gueye in stoppage time.
The third qualifying round has been brutal. DAC lost 6-0 away to Twente at De Grolsch Veste on Thursday 6 August 2026, in front of 24,135. Daan Rots scored on 7 minutes and Marko Pjaca on 11; Daouda Weidmann added a third on 48, Max Bruns a fourth on 56, Ramiz Zerrouki a fifth on 64 and Robin Pröpper a sixth on 78. Klauß had made one change to the side that played the previous European tie, bringing Kačaraba into the defence in place of the forward Gueye, with Modesto and Gruber unavailable through injury. The second leg is at home on Thursday 13 August 2026 at 19:00, refereed by Florian Badstübner of Germany. The winners meet the winners of Dynamo Kyiv against Qarabağ in the play-off round.
