Edinburgh City
The club
The present Edinburgh City were founded in 1966 as Postal United and took the Edinburgh City name in 1986, adopting it from an earlier club of that name which played from 1928 to 1955. That distinction matters when checking old records: East Fife's record win of 13-2 in December 1937 was against the original Edinburgh City, not this club.
They play at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh, capacity 1,280 of which 500 are seated, having groundshared at Ainslie Park between 2017 and 2022 while Meadowbank was rebuilt. They are the Citizens and play in white shirts with black shorts.
The name has moved about recently. After promotion to League One in 2022 the club rebranded as Football Club of Edinburgh, following a dispute with the original social club over the rights to the name. Ownership changed in June 2023 and the club reverted to Edinburgh City, which is the name in use for 2026/27. Sources covering 2022/23 will call them FC Edinburgh.

Recent seasons
Edinburgh City finished second in League Two in 2020/21 with 38 points from a Covid-shortened 27 games, level with Elgin City and ahead on goal difference. In 2021/22 they were fourth with 52 points and went up through the play-offs, beating Annan Athletic in the final. League One in 2022/23, under the FC Edinburgh name, went well: sixth with 51 points, 15 wins, 60 goals scored.
Then it fell apart. In 2023/24 they finished bottom of League One with eight points, having had six deducted in January 2024 for failing to pay wages and breaching tax obligations, and were relegated. They recovered to third in League Two in 2024/25 with 56 points. Last season, 2025/26, was worse than the table alone reads: the SPFL docked them 15 points after an insolvency event, and although the petitioning debt was paid in full and the provisional liquidator's appointment terminated, the appeal was rejected. City finished bottom with 24 points from a playing record of ten wins, nine draws and 17 defeats, which would otherwise have been 39 and eighth. They survived the pyramid play-off against Highland League champions Brora Rangers, winning 3-1 on aggregate with a 2-0 second leg at Meadowbank on 16 May 2026; Divine Iserhienrhien scored all three goals across the tie.
Honours and landmarks
Lowland League champions in 2014/15 and 2015/16, East of Scotland League champions in 2005/06, and East of Scotland League Cup winners in 1992/93, 2001/02 and 2012/13.
The landmark is 2016. Edinburgh City beat East Stirlingshire in the play-off, a Dougie Gair penalty four minutes from the end settling it, and became the first non-league club promoted into the Scottish Professional Football League under the newly established pyramid system. Record attendance, record victory and record defeat as club records are not published anywhere that could be found.
Notable scorelines
From the Fitbastats era, the biggest win is 6-0 away to Airdrieonians on 3 September 2022. City also won 5-0 at home to Dumbarton on 2 May 2026, 5-0 at home to The Spartans on 15 February 2025 and 5-0 at home to Fort William in a Scottish Cup preliminary tie on 16 August 2014. The heaviest defeat is 0-8 away to Ross County in the League Cup on 22 July 2025, followed by 0-6 at home to Partick Thistle in the same competition on 20 July 2024. The highest-scoring games are a 7-2 defeat at Cove Rangers on 23 December 2023 and a 7-2 defeat at Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup third round on 24 January 1998.

Michael McIndoe has been manager since 9 October 2023, which now makes him the longest-serving of the recent appointments; his predecessors Alan Maybury, Gary Naysmith, James McDonaugh and Gary Jardine each lasted between one and three and a half years.

In Premier Sports Cup Group G, City lost 5-0 at home to Falkirk on 11 July, beat Alloa Athletic 2-0 at Meadowbank on 14 July, lost at Ayr United on 18 July, and beat Stranraer 2-0 away on 21 July. The Ayr game was played out as a 2-0 defeat but recorded as 3-0 after an award over an ineligible player. Six points left them third in the group behind Ayr and Falkirk.
The League Two season opens at home to Elgin City on Saturday 1 August 2026.
