The club

Everton were founded in 1878 and now play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall, Liverpool, which holds 52,769. The ground opened on 17 February 2025 and Everton's first match there was a Premier League fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion on 24 August 2025, won 2-0 in front of 51,759. The naming rights were settled in May 2025. Before that the club had been at Goodison Park since 1892; the last match there was on 18 May 2025, a 2-0 win over Southampton, Iliman Ndiaye scoring both and so becoming the ground's last goalscorer. The club are the Toffees, or the Blues, and play in royal blue shirts with white shorts and socks.

Recent seasons

Six Premier League seasons, most of them spent looking downwards. Everton finished tenth in 2020/21 with 59 points, then sixteenth in 2021/22 with 41 and seventeenth in 2022/23 with 36, surviving on the final day with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. In 2023/24 they finished fifteenth with 40 points after two separate deductions for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules: ten points on 17 November 2023, reduced to six on appeal on 26 February 2024, and a further two on 8 April 2024 for additional breaches, eight in total. Without them it would have been 48 and a comfortable mid-table finish.

Sean Dyche was sacked on 9 January 2025 with the club sixteenth, and David Moyes returned on 11 January, twelve years after leaving in 2013. Everton finished 2024/25 thirteenth with 48 points, 11 wins and 15 draws, 42 goals scored and 44 conceded, with Jordan Pickford keeping 12 clean sheets. Last season, 2025/26, they were thirteenth again with 49 points, 13 wins, 10 draws and 15 defeats, 47 goals for and 50 against.

Honours and landmarks

Nine league titles: 1890/91, 1914/15, 1927/28, 1931/32, 1938/39, 1962/63, 1969/70, 1984/85 and 1986/87. Five FA Cups: 1906, 1933, 1966, 1984 and 1995. One European trophy, the Cup Winners' Cup of 1985.

The record that defines the club is longevity. Everton have the longest continuous top-flight membership in English football, 117 years, having spent only four seasons outside the top division: 1930/31, 1951/52, 1952/53 and 1953/54.

Record home attendance is 78,299 against Liverpool at Goodison Park on 18 September 1948. Neville Southall made 751 appearances between 1981 and 1998. Dixie Dean scored 383 goals between 1925 and 1937, 60 of them in the single season of 1927/28. Record fee paid is £45 million for Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City in 2017; record fee received is £90 million for Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in the same year.

Notable scorelines

Record victory: 9-1, achieved twice in the league, against Manchester City on 3 September 1906 and against Plymouth Argyle on 27 December 1930. Record defeat: 0-7, suffered three times in the league, against Sunderland on 26 December 1934, against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 22 February 1939, and against Arsenal on 11 May 2005.

Head-to-head notes

The only all-time record that could be established is the Merseyside derby, and it is not a happy one. As at 19 April 2026 the two had met 248 times competitively: Liverpool 102 wins, Everton 68, 78 draws. The most recent meeting was that same day, Everton losing 1-2 at home in the Premier League. The fixture has produced 23 red cards in the Premier League era, more than any other, though one was later rescinded.

For the other eighteen clubs in the 2026/27 Premier League, no all-time record could be established. The site that publishes them, 11v11.com, returns 403 to automated requests, and this session had exhausted its web search allowance before an alternative could be found. That includes the three promoted clubs, Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City, who came up in place of West Ham United, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers. David Moyes continues as manager, in his second full season of his second spell, under owners The Friedkin Group and chairman Dan Friedkin.

The summer was busier and more expensive than recent ones. Hayden Hackney signed from Middlesbrough on 2 July for £16.5 million plus £8 million in add-ons. Tyrique George joined from Chelsea on 6 July for £18 million plus £6 million in add-ons. On the same day the club triggered the obligation to buy Merlin Rohl from Freiburg for £17 million after his loan season. Goalkeeper Zach Lee arrived free from Kendal Town on 17 July. Going the other way, Isaac Heath joined Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee on 15 June and Coby Ebere went to Cukaricki on a free on 2 July. Seamus Coleman's contract expired on 30 June 2026, ending a long association with the club, and Idrissa Gueye and Tyler Onyango also came out of contract. George Morgan went on loan to AS Cannes for the season on 20 July. Vitaliy Mykolenko extended to 30 June 2029, and Shea Pita and Rocco Lambert signed first professional deals.

Pre-season began with a 4-0 win at Dundee on 18 July, followed by a goalless draw at Bolton Wanderers on 25 July and a 1-0 defeat at Stoke City on 28 July. Friendlies against Hamburg on 1 August, Stuttgart on 8 August, Newcastle United on 12 August and Lille on 15 August were still to come as of 31 July.

The Premier League season starts on 21 August 2026. Everton's first fixture is at home to Crystal Palace at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday 22 August 2026 at 3pm.
