FC Ballkani

The club

Football Club Ballkani, known in Albanian as Klubi Futbollistik Ballkani and generally written in English-language sources as either FC Ballkani or KF Ballkani, are based in Suhareka (also written Suva Reka) in southern Kosovo. Wikipedia's own article on the club is titled "FC Ballkani", which is the form used in this dossier's title to match the feed name, but the two renderings refer to the same club and no separate "KF Ballkani" entity exists; the discrepancy is one of English-language style rather than substance.

The club was founded in 1947 by a group of local athletes under the name Rinia, with official registration and competitive play beginning in 1952. In 1965 the Suhareka Chemical and Rubber Industry took ownership of the club and it was renamed Ballkani. Ballkani progressed through the Yugoslav league system, reaching the Kosovo Provincial League in 1973-74, was relegated and returned in 1977, and stayed in that tier into the 1990s. The club was among the first from Kosovo to leave the Football Association of Yugoslavia's competition structure, instead playing in an unofficial, unrecognised parallel First League of Kosovo until 2000. After Kosovo's own Football Federation was established, Ballkani played their first match in the new structure against KF Liria in Studençan.

The club's nickname is "Xhebrailat" (the Gabriels). The home colours are orange shirts with black shorts, the away kit is white and there is a third black kit. Ballkani play home league matches at the Theranda City Stadium in Suhareka, with a capacity of around 3,000, but the ground does not meet UEFA's competition standards, so the club's home matches in European competition are played at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium in Pristina instead. The club chairman is Arsim Kabashi.

Recent seasons

Ballkani won their first Superliga e Kosovës title in 2021-22 under head coach Ilir Daja and retained it in 2022-23. In 2023-24 they won a third successive title with 78 points from a 23-9-4 record, 62 goals scored and 26 conceded, and added the Kosovar Cup the same season. In 2024-25 they finished as runners-up on 62 points, a 17-11-8 record with 61 scored and 39 conceded, well beaten to the title by KF Drita of Gjilan, who took 74 points. In 2025-26 Ballkani finished third with 58 points from a 17-7-12 record, 61 goals for and 41 against, behind champions Drita (66 points) and Malisheva (59 points); that third-place finish is what carried them into the 2026-27 UEFA Conference League first qualifying round.

Honours and landmarks

Superliga e Kosovës champions three times, in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24, and runners-up in 2024-25. Kupa e Kosovës winners in 2023-24 and runners-up in 2019-20. Superkupa e Kosovës winners in 2022 and 2024, and runners-up in 2023. On 25 August 2022, after eliminating Shkupi of North Macedonia, Ballkani became the first side from Kosovo to reach the group stage of a UEFA club competition, in the 2022-23 UEFA Europa Conference League; they repeated the achievement in 2023-24. Ballkani's biggest European result is a 10-0 aggregate win over La Fiorita of San Marino in the second qualifying round of the 2022-23 Conference League, 6-0 at home and 4-0 away. The following season they beat the Northern Irish side Larne 7-1 on aggregate in the second qualifying round, winning 3-0 at home and 4-1 away, and then beat Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar 5-1 on aggregate in the third qualifying round. Their heaviest European defeats are 4-0 losses away from home, to Ludogorets Razgrad of Bulgaria in the 2023-24 Champions League first qualifying round and to Shamrock Rovers of the Republic of Ireland in the third qualifying round of the 2025-26 Conference League. Ballkani's European history begins in the 2022-23 season. They were eliminated by Žalgiris of Lithuania in the Champions League first qualifying round, losing 1-2 on aggregate, then dropped into the Conference League, where they beat La Fiorita 10-0, beat KÍ Klaksvík of the Faroe Islands on penalties after a 4-4 aggregate draw, and beat Shkupi 3-1 on aggregate in the play-off round to reach the group stage. There they finished fourth in a group with Slavia Prague, CFR Cluj and Sivasspor, taking four points.

In 2023-24 Ballkani again entered the Champions League as Kosovan champions and lost to Ludogorets Razgrad 2-4 on aggregate in the first qualifying round. In the Conference League they beat Larne 7-1, Lincoln Red Imps 5-1 and BATE Borisov of Belarus 4-2 on aggregate to reach the group stage for a second year running, where they again finished fourth, in a group with Dinamo Zagreb, Viktoria Plzeň and Astana.

In 2024-25 they lost to UE Santa Coloma of Andorra in the Champions League first qualifying round, 3-3 on aggregate and 5-6 on penalties. In the Conference League they beat Ħamrun Spartans of Malta 2-0 on aggregate in the second qualifying round, then lost to Larne in the third qualifying round, 1-1 on aggregate and 1-4 on penalties, a reversal of the sides' meeting the previous year.

In 2025-26, entering the Conference League directly, Ballkani beat Floriana of Malta 5-3 on aggregate in the second qualifying round before losing to Shamrock Rovers 1-4 on aggregate in the third qualifying round.

Head-to-head notes

The clearest repeat fixture in Ballkani's recent European history is against Larne: Ballkani won 7-1 on aggregate when the sides met in the 2023-24 Conference League second qualifying round, then lost on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw when they met again in the 2024-25 third qualifying round, a complete swing in fortune between the same two clubs a year apart. Their 2026-27 opponents, Connah's Quay Nomads of Wales and Bohemians of the Republic of Ireland, appear to be first-time meetings; no history of prior fixtures against either was established from the sources read here.

FC Ballkani should not be confused with other similarly named clubs. PFC/FC Balkan Botevgrad, currently in Bulgaria's third tier and playing in green and white, is an unrelated club despite the similar name. Right now (2026/27)

Ballkani entered the 2026-27 UEFA Conference League in the first qualifying round against Connah's Quay Nomads of Wales. The away leg in Wales finished 0-0 on 8 July 2026, and Ballkani won the home leg 3-2 at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium in Pristina on 16 July 2026, goals from the captain Edvin Kuč, the Brazilian forward Giovanni Ribeiro and the Ivorian forward Valentin Serebe, to go through 3-2 on aggregate.

In the second qualifying round Ballkani were paired with Bohemians of the Republic of Ireland. They lost the away leg at Dalymount Park in Dublin on 23 July 2026, and won the home leg in Pristina on 30 July 2026 after extra time, but the tie finished 4-4 on aggregate and Bohemians went through on penalties, 5-4. That ended Ballkani's involvement in Europe for the season; exact individual goalscorers for the Bohemians tie were not established from the sources read here.

Domestically the Superliga e Kosovës season began on 15 August 2026 with ten clubs, including the two promoted sides, KF Vushtrria and KF Feronikeli, replacing the bottom two from 2025-26, KF Ferizaj and Prishtina e Re.
