F.C. Copenhagen
Also written as Copenhagen, FC Copenhagen.
The club
F.C. Copenhagen were formed on 1 July 1992 by the merger of the football departments of KB and B 1903, making them by some distance the youngest of the big Scandinavian clubs and, by trophies, the most successful Danish one of the modern era. They play at Parken Stadium, capacity 38,065, which is also the Danish national stadium. The home kit is white and red. They are Byens Hold, the Team of the City, and Loverne, the Lions.
Recent seasons
Copenhagen finished third in 2020/21, then won the Superliga in 2021/22 and 2022/23, finished third in 2023/24, and won the title again in 2024/25.
The 2025/26 season was a collapse. The defending champions finished the regular season seventh on 29 points, missing the championship round of six, and so played out the year in the relegation round, which they won on 51 points overall. To put the scale of it in context, AGF took their first Danish title in forty years on 67 points, Midtjylland were second on 60 and Nordsjaelland third on 50. Copenhagen salvaged their European place by winning the European play-off, beating Brondby 3-1 after extra time, which sent them into the Conference League second qualifying round rather than into no European football at all. That is why one of Denmark's biggest clubs is in the Conference League and starting in July.
Honours and landmarks
Sixteen Danish Superliga titles: 1992/93, 2000/01, 2002/03, 2003/04, 2005/06, 2006/07, 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2012/13, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2018/19, 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2024/25. Ten Danish Cups. Two Royal League titles, in 2004/05 and 2005/06. No club-record win or record defeat was established from the sources read here.
Notable scorelines
The 1-0 home win over Manchester United in the 2006/07 Champions League group stage is the one Danish supporters still name first. The 2023/24 round of 16 produced 3-1 defeats to Manchester City in both legs. The 2019/20 Europa League quarter-final was lost 1-0 to Manchester United in extra time.
European record
Copenhagen have been a Champions League regular by the standards of a Scandinavian club. They first reached the group stage in 2006/07 and beat Manchester United 1-0 at Parken in it. In 2010/11 they went further than any Danish club before them, reaching the round of 16, where Chelsea eliminated them. They returned to the round of 16 in 2023/24, losing both legs 3-1 to Manchester City. In the Europa League their best run was the 2019/20 quarter-final, lost 1-0 after extra time to Manchester United.
The 2026/27 campaign is a very different kind of European season. Entering at the Conference League second qualifying round, they drew 3-3 away to Polissya Zhytomyr on 22 July 2026 and won the return 2-1 at Parken on 29 July, going through 5-4 on aggregate after a nervous tie. In the third qualifying round they won 3-0 away to Debrecen on 6 August 2026, a controlled performance in extreme heat, which leaves them heavily favoured to reach the play-off round.
Quotes
- "It will be decided over 180 minutes as always, but it is important that we can make a good start to the game and put ourselves in a good position for the second leg." - Bo Svensson, F.C. Copenhagen head coach, to the club's official site, 6 August 2026, previewing the away leg at Debrecen. https://www.fck.dk/en/news/svensson-heat-will-be-factor-debrecen
- "When we entered the stadium here at 6pm, an hour earlier than we play tomorrow, I was happy that there will be shade while the match is being played." - Bo Svensson, F.C. Copenhagen head coach, to the club's official site, 6 August 2026, on the conditions in Hungary. https://www.fck.dk/en/news/svensson-heat-will-be-factor-debrecen
- "So it's of course a factor in how the match is played, and also in terms of the tactics that have to be put in place." - Bo Svensson, F.C. Copenhagen head coach, to the club's official site, 6 August 2026, on the heat. https://www.fck.dk/en/news/svensson-heat-will-be-factor-debrecen
- "It will of course be a bit of a baptism of fire if he plays from the start, but he knows the conditions and he knows the opponents very well. And even though he is a young player, he has a lot of matches under his belt, so we are happy to have the extra member in the squad." - Bo Svensson, F.C. Copenhagen head coach, to the club's official site, 6 August 2026, on the new Hungarian signing Akos Markgraf. https://www.fck.dk/en/news/svensson-heat-will-be-factor-debrecen
Right now (2026/27)
Bo Svensson is the head coach. The Wikipedia season page for 2026/27 listed no summer transfers when read here, which is clearly incomplete; what is confirmed from the club's own site is the signing of the 21-year-old Hungarian defender Akos Markgraf from Ujpest on a five-year contract in early August 2026, taking the number 6 shirt, able to play centre-back or left-back, and capped by Hungary for the first time in June. Going the other way, Pantelis Chatzidiakos joined PAOK for a reported 1.5m euros on 17 July 2026. Other summer business was not established from the sources read here.
The Superliga started well. Copenhagen opened at home to Lyngby and won 3-2, then won 3-1 away at Silkeborg on 2 August 2026 with a hat-trick from Mohamed Elyounoussi. The sources read here date the Lyngby match 26 July and 27 July respectively and that discrepancy is not resolved. Randers away on 16 August and Viborg away on 23 August follow.
The European tie: Copenhagen are in the **Conference League third qualifying round** against **Debrecen**. **The first leg was played in Hungary on 6 August 2026 and Copenhagen won 3-0.** The second leg is at Parken on 12 August 2026, the day this dossier is written, so the tie may well be resolved by the time it is read. A three-goal lead from the away leg leaves Copenhagen strong favourites to reach the Conference League play-off round.
