Ferencvarosi TC
Also written as Ferencvaros.
The club
Ferencvarosi Torna Club were founded on 3 May 1899 by residents of the ninth district of Budapest, from which the club takes its name. They play at the Groupama Arena, opened in 2014 on the site of the old Ulloi ut ground, which holds 23,700 for domestic matches and 20,000 in UEFA configuration. The colours are green and white and the club is universally known as Fradi, or the Greens. The three E letters on the badge stand for erkolcs, ero, egyetertes: morality, strength, understanding.
Recent seasons
Ferencvaros won seven consecutive Hungarian titles up to and including 2024/25, their 36th championship. Nemzeti Bajnoksag I titles are confirmed for 2022/23 (34th), 2023/24 (35th) and 2024/25 (36th); the earlier years of that run were not individually confirmed with points totals from the sources read here.
The streak ended in 2025/26 by a single point. Gyori ETO won the title with 69 points from 33 matches, 20 wins, 9 draws and 4 defeats. Ferencvaros finished second with 68 points from 21 wins, 5 draws and 7 defeats, a better win count and a worse points total. The consequence matters for this season: Gyor took Hungary's Champions League place and Ferencvaros were sent into the Europa League at the first qualifying round.
Honours and landmarks
Ferencvaros hold every relevant Hungarian record: 36 league titles, 25 Magyar Kupa wins and six Szuperkupa. Their European honour is the 1964/65 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, won by beating Juventus 1-0 in the final, and it remains the only major European trophy won by a Hungarian club. Florian Albert, who won the Ballon d'Or in 1967, played his whole career for Fradi and is the figure the club is still most identified with.
Notable scorelines
The 1-0 defeat of Juventus in the 1965 Fairs Cup final is the result the club is built on. They lost the 1967/68 Fairs Cup final to Leeds United, 0-1 on aggregate over two legs, and the 1974/75 Cup Winners' Cup final 3-0 to Dynamo Kyiv at the St Jakob Stadium in Basel. In the 2020/21 Champions League group stage they lost 3-0 to Barcelona and 4-1 to Juventus. In the 2022/23 Europa League group they beat Trabzonspor 3-2 and Monaco 1-0 before losing 4-0 to Bayer Leverkusen in the knockout round. Record domestic win and record defeat were not established from the sources read here.
European record
Fradi are Hungary's most consistent European side by a distance and, unusually for a club from their coefficient band, they have made a habit of reaching group and league phases. They came through the play-off to the 2020/21 Champions League group and finished fourth behind Juventus, Barcelona and Dynamo Kyiv. They topped their 2022/23 Europa League group with seven points. They finished 17th of 36 in the 2024/25 Europa League league phase. Their 2025/26 Europa League league phase included wins over Ludogorets 3-1 and Rangers 2-1; their final placing in that league phase was reported as 12th of 36 in the source read here, but that source appeared to be describing an in-progress table and the figure should be treated as unconfirmed.
The 2026/27 route has been the long one. Ferencvaros entered at the Europa League first qualifying round and beat Vojvodina 5-1 on aggregate, winning 2-1 away and 3-0 at home. In the second qualifying round they eliminated Twente 4-3 on aggregate, winning 2-1 in Enschede on 23 July 2026 and drawing 2-2 at the Groupama Arena on 30 July 2026, a tie in which they played with ten men from the 36th minute after a red card for Philippe Rommens. Which of the two legs the red card fell in was not confirmed from the sources read here.

We started well, we had three or four promising chances, and we could not convert any of them." https://www.origo.hu/sport/sport-futball/2026/08/fradi-borbely-balazs-gornik-zabrze-ertekeles
- "Mindig fontos, hogy a tengelyben futballozo jatekosok jo teljesitmenyt nyujtsanak. Jonathan Levi jol jatszott, Corbu pedig fantasztikus teljesitmenyt nyujtott." - Balazs Borbely, Ferencvaros head coach, to Origo, 5 August 2026. - "Az elso meccs mindig egy kicsit ovatosabb. Translation: "A first leg is always a little more cautious. It would have been good to take at least one of the chances we made in the first twenty minutes." https://www.origo.hu/sport/sport-futball/2026/08/fradi-borbely-balazs-gornik-zabrze-ertekeles
A further remark attributed to Borbely, that the winner of this tie is guaranteed at least Conference League league-phase football, was reported by index.hu but could not be verified word for word from the page read here and is therefore not quoted.
Right now (2026/27)
Balazs Borbely, a Slovak, was appointed on 1 June 2026, replacing Robbie Keane, who left by mutual agreement on 23 May 2026. Incoming: defender Nathan Zohore from Boulogne on 20 June 2026, forward Krisztian Lisztes on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt on 29 June 2026, and midfielder Adam Nagy from Spezia on 31 July 2026. Outgoing: Aleksandar Pesic to Fatih Karagumruk on 22 May 2026, Stefan Gartenmann to Sampdoria on 3 June 2026, Mohammed Abu Fani to Red Star Belgrade on 13 June 2026, and Ibrahim Cisse to Al-Ittihad Kalba on 1 July 2026. Fees were not published in the sources read here.
The domestic start has been poor: one point from the first two league matches, played on 26 July and 2 August 2026, leaving Fradi eleventh of twelve. Europe is going better. In the Europa League third qualifying round they beat Gornik Zabrze 1-0 at the Groupama Arena on 5 August 2026, Marius Corbu scoring in the 65th minute in a game Gornik finished with a single shot on target. The second leg is in Zabrze on 13 August 2026. Borbely's own verdict, quoted above, was that the performance came in waves and that his side know where they have to improve.
