The club
Fleetwood Town in their current form were founded in 1997, the third club to carry the name in the fishing port of Fleetwood on the Lancashire coast; the original Fleetwood Town dated from 1908. They play at Highbury Stadium, capacity 5,327, of which 2,672 are seated, the smallest ground in League Two by some distance. The club are known as the Cod Army and also as the Fishermen, and play in red shirts with white sleeves and white shorts. Jamie Pilley took over as owner in May 2024.
Recent seasons
Fleetwood have gone from the top half of League One to the middle of League Two in six years. They were sixth in League One in 2019/20 with 60 points, 15th in 2020/21 also with 60, 20th in 2021/22 with 40, and 13th in 2022/23 with 58. In 2023/24 they finished 22nd with 43 points and were relegated to League Two. They were 14th in their first season back down, 2024/25, with 60 points, and 15th in 2025/26 with 61 points from 46 games, a record of 15 wins, 16 draws and 15 defeats and a goal difference of minus one. Sixteen draws in a season is the shape of that campaign: they were rarely beaten heavily and rarely won convincingly.
Honours and landmarks
Fleetwood's rise through the pyramid is the club's story. They won the Conference National in 2011/12 to reach the Football League for the first time, and won the League Two play-offs in 2014 to go up to League One two years later. Their highest league finish is fourth in League One in 2016/17. Nathan Pond holds the appearance record with 498 games between 2003 and 2018, a run that took in the whole climb. Dave Barnes is the club's all-time leading scorer with 101 goals. The record fee received is £1.7m for Jamie Vardy to Leicester City in 2012, a transfer that remains the single most-cited fact about the club. Notable scorelines
Record victory: 13-0 against Oldham Town in 1998. Record defeat: 0-9 against Bradford City in 1949, a result from the earlier incarnation of the club. No famous individual match in the Football League era was established from the sources consulted beyond the 2014 play-off final.
Head-to-head notes
Fleetwood do not publish all-time head-to-head records, and none could be established for any 2026/27 League Two opponent. The club is young enough in league terms that all-time records against most opponents would be short anyway. Two useful lines exist for this season. Left-back Danny Andrew joined Fleetwood from Exeter City on a free transfer this summer, and Exeter are in the same division after relegation. Summer signings include left-back Danny Andrew from Exeter City on a free transfer, forward Josh Thomas from Swansea City, midfielder Kane Thompson-Sommers from Milton Keynes Dons, and midfielder Andy Cannon from Wrexham on a free transfer. Jake Batty and James Pradic were both announced on 28 July 2026, Batty saying on signing that the aim was to get Fleetwood back to League One. Jesse Dempsey joined on loan on 31 July. Departures include Elliot Bonds to Salford City, George Morrison to Stoke City on 28 July, and Luke Hewitson to Chester. No fees were published for any of these deals.
Pre-season has gone well: a 5-0 win over Bamber Bridge, 2-0 against Southport, 2-1 against Huddersfield Town, and a 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers on or about 28 July 2026. Three Fleetwood fixtures were selected for live television coverage, announced on 30 July.
League Two begins on 15 August 2026. Fleetwood's opening fixture is away to Chesterfield at the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday 15 August at 3pm. They host Gillingham on 22 August.
