Getafe
The club
Getafe Club de Futbol were founded on 8 July 1983, following a merger with Club Getafe Promesas. The town of Getafe lies inside the Community of Madrid, and the club's forerunner, Club Getafe Deportivo, had been set up in 1946 by five local men who met in the La Marquesina bar. The home colours are deep blue, which gives the nickname Azulones, the deep blue ones; the club is also known simply as Geta. The away kit is white and the third kit changes by season. The ground is the Estadio Coliseum, also called the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, occupied since 1 January 1998, with a capacity of 16,500. The president is Angel Torres.
Getafe climbed the whole Spanish pyramid in twenty years, from the 1983 refounding to a first La Liga season in 2004. They then spent twelve consecutive years in the top division from 2004 to 2016, returned in 2017 and have stayed up since.
A word on which club this is. Getafe are the club of the town of Getafe, and they are not their Madrid neighbours: not Real Madrid, not Atletico Madrid, not Rayo Vallecano and not Leganes, all of whom are separate clubs in or around the same city. Geta is Getafe's own nickname and not the name of a different club, so a report saying Geta means this club. Club Getafe Deportivo, the 1946 side, is the forerunner and not the club that plays today; the club that plays today dates from 1983.
The head coach is Jose Bordalas, working alongside the assistants known as Patri and Jose Vegar.
Recent seasons
Getafe finished fifteenth in La Liga in 2021/22 and fifteenth again in 2022/23. They were twelfth in 2023/24 and thirteenth in 2024/25. In 2025/26 they finished seventh with 51 points from 38 matches, 15 wins, 6 draws and 17 defeats, 32 goals scored and 38 conceded, a goal difference of minus six. That seventh place qualified them for the Conference League play-off round.
