The club

Hull City were founded on 28 June 1904 and play in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. Their home since 2002 is the MKM Stadium, capacity 24,620; before that they were at Boothferry Park from 1946. They are the Tigers and play in black and amber, traditionally striped. The club is owned by Acun Medya, with Acun Ilicali as chairman, having previously been owned by Assem Allam, who bought it in December 2010. In 2026/27 Hull are in the Premier League, their first top-flight season since 2016/17.

Recent seasons

Hull won League One in 2020/21 with 89 points, 27 wins, 8 draws and 11 defeats, and went straight back up. The four Championship seasons that followed were mostly a struggle: nineteenth in 2021/22 with 51 points, fifteenth in 2022/23 with 58, then a genuine push in 2023/24, seventh with 70 points and only just outside the play-offs, before a collapse to twenty-first in 2024/25 with 49 points, one place above relegation.

The 2025/26 season was transformed. Sergej Jakirovic had been appointed on 11 June 2025 and took Hull to sixth in the Championship with 73 points, 21 wins, 10 draws and 15 defeats. In the play-off semi-final they drew 0-0 at home with Millwall and won 2-0 at The Den. In the final at Wembley on 23 May 2026, in front of 84,506, Oli McBurnie scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to beat Middlesbrough 1-0, turning in from six yards after Sol Brynn parried a Yu Hirakawa cross. McBurnie finished the season with 17 league goals and 19 in all competitions. Hull became the first side promoted to the top flight from sixth place since 2010. They reached the fourth round of the FA Cup and went out of the EFL Cup in the first round.

All of this happened under financial restriction. A transfer embargo was imposed in July 2025 over late payments to Aston Villa and Manchester City for loan players, originally for three windows and reduced to two on appeal. The club's accounts showed underlying losses of £41.7m, and £15m of shareholder loans were converted to equity.

Honours and landmarks

Hull have never won a major trophy. They won the Third Division North in 1932/33 and 1948/49 and League One in 2020/21. Their peak was the 2014 FA Cup final on 17 May 2014, their first: James Chester scored inside five minutes and Curtis Davies made it 2-0 moments later, but Arsenal came back to win 3-2 with an Aaron Ramsey goal deep in extra time. That defeat still brought European football, the club's first and so far only campaign. In the 2014/15 Europa League third qualifying round Hull drew 0-0 away to Trencin and won the home leg 2-1 on 7 August 2014; in the play-off round they lost 1-0 away to Lokeren and won 2-1 at home, going out on away goals.

The club's biggest Premier League win is 6-0 against Fulham on 28 December 2013. In 2011 they set a club record of 14 away matches unbeaten, later extended to 17. Bill McNaughton scored 39 goals in 1932/33. Chris Chilton scored 195 between 1960 and 1971. Andy Davidson made 520 league appearances between 1952 and 1967. Record fee received is £20m for Jarrod Bowen to West Ham United in January 2020; record fee paid is £10m for Abel Hernandez from Palermo in August 2014. Record attendance at the MKM Stadium is 25,512 against Sunderland in the Championship on 28 October 2006, a 1-0 defeat. Record win: 11-1 against Carlisle United in Division Three (North) on 14 January 1939. Record defeat: 0-8 against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Division Two on 4 November 1911, matched by an 0-8 defeat at Wigan Athletic in the Championship on 14 July 2020.

Hull do not publish all-time head-to-head records and none were found for their 2026/27 Premier League opponents. The only fixtures established from sources for the start of the season are Manchester United at home on 22 August 2026, Coventry City away on 29 August and Aston Villa at home on 5 September. Sergej Jakirovic remains manager. With the embargo behind them, Hull spent and sold in roughly equal measure. Goalkeeper Ivor Pandur went to Rangers for £6m on 30 June and was replaced by Jack Butland, coming the other way from Rangers for £3m on 2 July. Also out: centre-back Akin Famewo to Bolton Wanderers on 1 July for an undisclosed fee, attacking midfielder Aidon Shehu to Panathinaikos for £2.6m on 1 July, Kasey Palmer to Luton Town for £500,000 on 4 July, and striker Kyle Joseph to Middlesbrough for £4m on 10 July. In came defensive midfielder Oscar Zambrano from Maribor for £3.5m on 21 July, left-back Matt Targett from Newcastle United on a free on 23 July, midfielder Hidemasa Morita from Sporting CP on 24 July, and academy defender Ben Robinson from Preston North End on a free on 7 July.

Pre-season was taken in Slovenia, with a 3-0 win over Konyaspor on 25 July and a 2-1 win over Caykur Rizespor on 28 July, followed by Kasimpasa on 1 August and further matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Nice. The Premier League season begins at home to Manchester United on 22 August 2026.
