The club
Football Club Internazionale Milano, universally known as Inter or Inter Milan, were founded on 9 March 1908 as Football Club Internazionale, born of a split from the club that became AC Milan. They are NOT AC Milan: AC Milan are the OTHER Milan club, and the two have shared the same ground since 1947 while remaining fierce and entirely separate rivals. Inter's colours are black and blue, and the club carries the nicknames I Nerazzurri, La Beneamata and Il Biscione.
The ground is the Giuseppe Meazza in the San Siro district of Milan, with a capacity given as 75,817 in its limited configuration and 80,018 at maximum. Inter are the only club with an unbroken presence in the top division of Italian football, never relegated to Serie B since 1909.
The head coach is the Romanian Cristian Chivu, appointed on 9 June 2025 on a two-year contract. He follows Simone Inzaghi, who departed by mutual consent after the Champions League final defeat of 31 May 2025.
The record appearance maker is Javier Zanetti, with 858 matches and a record thirteen seasons as captain, at the club until 2014. The record goalscorer is Giuseppe Meazza with 284 goals, whose 38 goals in 39 matches in 1929-30 remains an unbeaten seasonal record; the stadium is named after him.
Recent seasons
Inter finished second in Serie A in 2021-22 with 84 points, winning the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana, then third in 2022-23 with 72 points, again winning both cups and reaching the Champions League final. They won the title in 2023-24 with 94 points, the club's twentieth, with Lautaro Martínez scoring 24 league goals. In 2024-25 they were second on 81 points, one behind champions Napoli despite winning their final match 2-0 against Como, and lost the Champions League final. In 2025-26 they were champions again with 87 points from 27 wins, 6 draws and 5 defeats, 89 goals scored and 35 conceded, eleven clear of second-placed Napoli, clinching the title with three matches to spare on 3 May 2026 with a 2-0 home win over Parma. Lautaro Martínez was the league's top scorer with 17 goals, and Inter added the Coppa Italia, beating Lazio 2-0 in the final on 13 May 2026 for a tenth Coppa Italia.
Honours and landmarks
Italian champions 21 times, most recently in 2025-26, the twentieth in 2023-24 having brought the second star. Coppa Italia winners ten times and Supercoppa Italiana winners eight times. European Cup and Champions League winners three times, in 1964, 1965 and 2010; UEFA Cup winners three times, in 1991, 1994 and 1998; Intercontinental Cup winners in 1964 and 1965; FIFA Club World Cup winners in 2010. The Grande Inter side of Helenio Herrera won three Serie A titles in four years in the 1960s alongside the back-to-back European Cups.
In 2009-10 Inter completed an unprecedented Italian seasonal treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League, still the only Italian club to have done it. They remain the only club never to have played outside the top division of Italian football.

Inter's biggest win in the Derby d'Italia against Juventus is 6-0, in 1954. The 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final of 31 May 2025 is described as the biggest margin of defeat in a final in the competition's history. On the way to that final Inter won a Champions League semi-final against Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate, drawing 3-3 away and winning 4-3 after extra time at home. They opened the 2025-26 league season with a 5-0 win over Torino on 25 August 2025, and the 2026-27 season with a 4-1 win over Monza on 22 August 2026. European record
Inter won the European Cup twice under Helenio Herrera, in 1964 and 1965, adding the Intercontinental Cup in both years, and won it a third time as the Champions League in 2010 to complete the treble, adding the FIFA Club World Cup later that year. The UEFA Cup was won three times in the 1990s, in 1991, 1994 and 1998.
The recent record is one of finals lost. In 2022-23 Inter reached the Champions League final and lost 1-0 to Manchester City at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 10 June 2023, Rodri scoring in the 68th minute. In 2024-25 they finished fourth of 36 in the league phase, beat Feyenoord 4-1 on aggregate, Bayern Munich 4-3 and Barcelona 7-6 after extra time, then lost the final 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in Munich on 31 May 2025. At the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup they went out in the round of sixteen, beaten 2-0 by Fluminense on 30 June 2025.
2025-26 brought a sharp fall: tenth in the league phase, then out in the knockout phase play-offs to Bodø/Glimt of Norway, beaten 3-1 in Bodø on 18 February and 2-1 at home on 24 February, 5-2 on aggregate.
