The club
Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag, known as KÍ, were founded on 24 August 1904 in Klaksvík, the second town of the Faroe Islands. They play at Við Djúpumýrar, whose capacity the sources read here do not agree on: the club article gives 2,600 with 1,300 seated, the stadium article about 2,500 with 524 seats. It does not meet UEFA requirements above the second qualifying round, so the club's later European home ties are played at Tórsvøllur in Tórshavn, the national stadium. Photographs of the club show them playing in white. The chairman is Tummas Lervig and the manager the Swede Magnus Powell, appointed in 2025.

Recent seasons
KÍ won the inaugural Faroese championship in 1942 and were the most decorated club in the islands until HB Tórshavn passed them in 2004. They were relegated for the first time in the club's history in 2009, came back up for 2011, and finished second by a point in 2016 and on goal difference in 2017.
The modern run began in 2019 with a first title in twenty years. They won again in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025. The 2025 championship was won without a single defeat: 27 matches, 23 wins, 4 draws, 92 goals scored and 18 conceded, 73 points, ahead of HB and NSÍ Runavík. They also won the 2025 Faroe Islands Cup and the 2026 Super Cup.

Notable scorelines
The 6-1 win over Dinamo Tbilisi on 24 September 2020, in the Europa League third qualifying round, was watched by seventy per cent of Klaksvík's population and is the result the club is measured by. The 3-0 win away at Ferencváros in 2023, completing a 3-0 aggregate win over the 34-time Hungarian champions after a goalless first leg, rivals it. The 3-0 home win over Olimpija Ljubljana on 26 October 2023 was the first Faroese win in a European group stage. KÍ first played in Europe in 1992, losing 6-1 on aggregate to Skonto Riga in the Champions League preliminary round. Their overall UEFA record is 71 matches, 22 wins, 16 draws and 33 defeats, 85 goals scored and 118 conceded, spread across the Champions League (22 matches), the UEFA Cup and Europa League (27), the Conference League (20) and the Cup Winners' Cup (2).
In 2019 they reached the Europa League second qualifying round for the first time, beating Riteriai of Lithuania on away goals. In 2020 they beat Dinamo Tbilisi 6-1 and then lost 3-1 to Dundalk in what was billed as the biggest match in their history.
In 2023 they beat Ferencváros 3-0 on aggregate and then BK Häcken, 3-3 on aggregate and 4-3 on penalties, to reach the Champions League third qualifying round. Molde ended that run, KÍ winning 2-1 at home and losing 2-0 after extra time away. Árni Frederiksberg scored six goals in the campaign. Sheriff Tiraspol beat them in the Europa League play-off, 1-1 at home and 2-1 away. In the 2023-24 Conference League group stage, in Group A with Lille, Slovan Bratislava and Olimpija Ljubljana, they lost 2-1 to Slovan with Deni Pavlović scoring the club's first group-stage goal, drew 0-0 with Lille on 5 October 2023 for the first Faroese point at that level, and beat Olimpija 3-0 on 26 October for the first win.
In 2025-26 they beat Radnički 1923 in the Conference League second qualifying round, 1-0 at home and 0-0 away, then lost to Neman Grodno in the third round, winning 2-0 at home, losing 2-0 after extra time away and going out 5-4 on penalties.

KÍ entered the 2026-27 Champions League as Faroese champions and won the first qualifying round against Atert Bissen of Luxembourg 4-2 on aggregate, 2-1 at Við Djúpumýrar on 7 July 2026 with goals from Oussama Ali and Páll Klettskarð, and 2-1 in Luxembourg on 15 July. In the second qualifying round they drew 0-0 at home with Kauno Žalgiris on 21 July in front of 1,091 and lost the return 1-0 on 29 July, Leon Kreković scoring on 85 minutes at the Central Stadium in Jonava, a match moved from Kaunas because of a Pitbull concert. That took KÍ into the Europa League third qualifying round rather than out of Europe.
