Lech Poznan

The club

Lech were founded on 19 March 1922 as KS Lutnia Debiec and took their present identity through the railway workers' clubs of Poznan, which is where the enduring nickname comes from: Kolejorz, the Railwayman. They are also called Duma Wielkopolski, the Pride of Greater Poland, and Poznanska Lokomotywa. They play at the Stadion Poznan, capacity 42,837, in blue and white.

Recent seasons

Lech won the Ekstraklasa in 2021/22, finished fifth in 2023/24, and have then won it twice in a row, in 2024/25 and 2025/26. Their 2020/21 and 2022/23 league positions were not confirmed from the sources read here, though 2022/23 is the season in which they reached the Conference League quarter-finals. They are the reigning champions and won the Polish Super Cup in 2026.

European record

Lech's best European run is the Conference League quarter-final of 2022/23, in which they lost 1-4 at home to Fiorentina and won 3-2 in Florence. No other run of that depth was confirmed from the sources read here, and the club's earlier European campaigns are not detailed in them.

The 2026/27 campaign began in the Champions League. As Polish champions Lech entered at the second qualifying round, Champions Path, and drew AGF, who played their home leg in Randers rather than Aarhus because Ceres Park was being rebuilt. Lech won that first leg 1-4 on 21 July 2026, Ishak, Walemark twice and Yegbe scoring, a result that ought to have settled it. Then they lost the return 1-4 at the Stadion Poznan on 29 July 2026, level at 5-5 on aggregate after extra time, and AGF won 4-3 on penalties. Right now (2026/27)

Niels Frederiksen, the Dane, is head coach. The summer's business was the most expensive in the club's recent history: Luis Palma from Celtic for 4,050,000 euros, Terry Yegbe from Metz for 3,000,000, goalkeeper Mateusz Lis from Goztepe for 900,000, and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh free from Westerlo, plus loan returns for Bryan Fiabema, Ian Hoffmann and Filip Szymczak. Out went Kornel Lisman to Venezia for 2,500,000 euros, Gisli Thordarson free to St Pauli and Filip Szymczak to Zaglebie Lubin for 250,000. Net spend was about 5.2 million euros.

The season began with the Polish Super Cup on 16 July 2026, a 3-1 win over Gornik Zabrze in front of 47,843. In the Ekstraklasa Lech have taken seven points from three: a 0-0 draw at home with Cracovia on 25 July, a 2-1 win away at Wieczysta Krakow on 1 August and a 3-0 home win over Piast Gliwice on 9 August, in which the 18-year-old academy midfielder Karol Delikat came on in the 78th minute and scored 35 seconds later. They lead the table. Raków Czestochowa are next, on Sunday 16 August, with Jagiellonia Bialystok on 22 August.

The tie Lech are in right now is the Europa League third qualifying round, Champions Path, against KI Klaksvik of the Faroe Islands, having dropped out of the Champions League on penalties against AGF. They won the first leg 1-0 at the Stadion Poznan on 6 August 2026, Yannick Agnero scoring on 81 minutes after a long stalemate.
