The club
FC Lugano were founded on 28 July 1908 under their first president, Ernesto Corsini. They are the leading club of Italian-speaking Switzerland. Since the 2026/27 season they play at the AIL Arena, capacity 8,093, which replaced the Cornaredo stadium; Cornaredo, opened in 1951 and holding around 15,000, was due for demolition after 2025/26. The club is owned by the American businessman Joe Mansueto, who bought it in 2021. The manager is Mattia Croci-Torti, in charge since 2021.
