Marsaxlokk FC
Also written as Marsaxlokk.
The club
Marsaxlokk Football Club was formed in 1949 as Marsaxlokk White Stars in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk in the south-east of Malta. The club first entered Malta Football Association competitions in 1955, withdrew after two seasons, and did not re-enter until 1965, working back up through the lower divisions before reaching the top flight. The home ground is the Marsaxlokk Ground in the village, with a capacity of 1,000; European and larger domestic fixtures are played elsewhere in Malta, though the exact alternative venue used was not established from the sources read here. The club wears blue and white, with the home kit a white shirt with blue shoulders, blue shorts and blue socks and an all-blue change strip, and is known to supporters as the Southseasiders, the Blues, or, in Maltese, Xlukkajri. The head coach is the Italian Enzo Potenza, in charge since 2024.
This dossier is about Marsaxlokk FC only. It should not be confused with Marsa FC, a separate club founded in 1920 and based in the harbour town of Marsa, which plays its home games at the Centenary Stadium and currently competes in the Maltese Challenge League, well below Marsaxlokk's level; Marsa FC's own notable European history is a single UEFA Cup appearance in 1971–72. No other Maltese club with a name close enough to cause confusion, such as a Marsaxlokk nursery or reserve side operating under a distinct name, was established from the sources read here.
Recent seasons
Marsaxlokk finished fourth in the 2023–24 Maltese Premier League with 43 points from 26 matches, 12 wins, 7 draws and 7 defeats, scoring 40 and conceding 23, which was enough to qualify for the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round that summer. In 2024–25 they were sixth with 47 points from 32 matches, 13 wins, 8 draws and 11 defeats, 47 scored and 39 conceded, in a season that also brought a Maltese Cup final appearance. In 2025–26 the club finished third with 56 points from 32 matches, 16 wins, 8 draws and 8 defeats, 42 goals scored and 36 conceded, behind champions Floriana and runners-up Ħamrun Spartans, a placing that again earned a UEFA Conference League qualifying spot for the following season.
