The club
Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli were founded on 25 August 1926 as Associazione Calcio Napoli, a merger of US Internazionale Napoli and Naples Foot-Ball Club. The club went bankrupt in 2004 and was refounded on 6 September 2004 as Napoli Soccer by the film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis, taking back the SSC Napoli name in May 2006. The club is owned by Filmauro S.r.l. and De Laurentiis remains president. Napoli play in sky blue shirts, white shorts and sky blue socks.
The ground is the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the club's home since 1959 as the Stadio San Paolo and renamed in December 2020 after Diego Maradona's death. Capacity is 54,732, and average home league attendance in 2025-26 was 47,632. Maradona himself arrived on 30 June 1984 for a then world record fee of twelve million euros and delivered the club's first two league titles and its only major European trophy before his 1990 ban for a failed cocaine test.
The head coach is Massimiliano Allegri, appointed on 3 July 2026 on a contract running to June 2029, after his departure from AC Milan. He replaced Antonio Conte, who confirmed at the end of May 2026 that he was leaving after two seasons in which Napoli finished first and then second. Allegri was presented at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples on 14 July 2026.
