FC Nordsjælland

The club

FC Nordsjælland were founded in 1991 as Farum BK and took their present name in March 2003, after the club was bought by the local businessman Allan K. Pedersen and rebranded to represent the whole North Zealand region rather than just the town of Farum. They play at the Right to Dream Park in Farum, capacity 9,200, and are known as Tigrene, the Tigers, or the Wild Tigers. They play in red.

Since December 2015 the club has been owned by the Pathways Group, which holds 99 per cent, and the chairman is Tom Vernon, founder of the Right to Dream academy in Ghana. That academy is the club's model: young players come through it and are sold on. The head coach is Jens Fonsskov Olsen.

The feed writes the name without the Danish letter, as "Nordsjaelland".

Recent seasons

Nordsjælland were second in the Superliga in 2022/23 with 55 points, fourth in 2023/24 with 58 points from 32 matches and a goal difference of plus 26, and fifth in 2024/25 with 46 points, a season in which they went out of the Danish Cup in the fourth round to Brabrand on penalties.

In 2025/26 they were sixth in the regular season with 10 wins, 1 draw and 11 defeats from 22 matches, then finished third overall after the championship round on 15 wins, 5 draws and 12 defeats from 32, scoring 51 and conceding 46. AGF were champions, Midtjylland second. Third place is what has put Nordsjælland into the Conference League this summer.

Honours and landmarks

Nordsjælland have won the Danish Superliga once, in 2011/12 under Kasper Hjulmand, and been runners-up twice, in 2012/13 and 2022/23. They have won the Danish Cup twice, in 2009/10 and 2010/11, beating Midtjylland in both finals: 2-0 after extra time in 2010 with goals from Nicolai Stokholm and Bajram Fetai, and 3-2 in 2011. They were runners-up in the Danish 1st Division in 2001/02.

The club is at least as well known for what it sells as what it wins. Morten Nordstrand went to Copenhagen in 2007 for 15m Danish kroner, then the largest fee ever paid between two Danish clubs. In November 2011, for the first time, five Nordsjælland players were called up to the Denmark squad at once.

Notable scorelines

The heaviest wins in Europe are 7-1 at home to Ludogorets Razgrad and 6-1 at home to Fenerbahce, both in the 2023/24 Conference League group stage, and 5-0 at home to Partizan in that season's play-off round. The most cited result is the 1-1 draw with Juventus at home in the 2012/13 Champions League group stage, Mikkel Beckmann scoring direct from a free kick; it was the club's only point in that group. Nordsjælland's record against Olympiacos in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, lost 7-0 on aggregate, is the worst two-legged beating in the sources read here. The club's all-time record domestic win and record defeat were not established.

European record

To 14 December 2023 Nordsjælland had played 40 matches in UEFA competition, winning 16, drawing five and losing 19, with 58 goals scored and 82 conceded. They have never won a Champions League match: eight played, one drawn, seven lost, three goals scored and 31 conceded.

Their first European match was on 14 August 2003, a 4-0 home win over Shirak of Armenia in the UEFA Cup, a tie taken 6-0; Panionios knocked them out in the first round. They returned to the UEFA Cup in 2008/09 via the UEFA Respect Fair Play rankings, beat TVMK Tallinn and Queen of the South, and lost 7-0 on aggregate to Olympiacos. The Danish Cup wins of 2010 and 2011 brought two Europa League campaigns, both ended by Sporting CP, the second 2-1 on aggregate in the 2011/12 third qualifying round.

Winning the 2011/12 Superliga took the club into the 2012/13 Champions League group stage, drawn with the holders Chelsea, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk, with home matches played at Parken in Copenhagen. They took one point, from the 1-1 with Juventus. In 2018/19 they beat AIK 2-0 on aggregate in Europa League qualifying before losing 5-3 to Partizan.

The best European season was 2023/24. Nordsjælland beat FCSB 2-0 on aggregate in the Conference League third qualifying round and then thrashed Partizan 6-0 across the play-off, 5-0 at home and 1-0 away. In the group stage they beat Fenerbahce 6-1 and Ludogorets 7-1 at home and won 2-0 at Spartak Trnava, but lost both away trips to the Turkish and Bulgarian sides and finished third. They played no European football in 2024/25 or 2025/26.

In 2026/27 Nordsjælland entered the Conference League second qualifying round against GAIS of Sweden and lost the first leg 1-0 in Gothenburg on 23 July in front of 11,714, then won the return 6-0 at the Right to Dream Park on 30 July in front of 5,477, through 6-1.

Right now (2026/27)

Jens Fonsskov Olsen is head coach. The transfer story of the summer is the sale of Caleb Yirenkyi to Coventry City on 7 August 2026, announced by the club as the biggest transfer in its history. Yirenkyi, 20, joined Nordsjælland in January 2024 having been in the Right to Dream academy in Ghana since he was nine; he made his Superliga debut on 20 September 2024, was promoted to the first-team squad in February 2025, played 56 matches with four goals and eight assists, was named the Superliga's young player of the year, and scored a decisive World Cup goal for Ghana against Panama. The fee was not stated on the club's own announcement. On 10 August the club announced a long contract extension for Andreas Sondenbroe.

The Superliga is two rounds old. As of 10 August 2026 Nordsjælland were fifth with one win and one draw from two matches, two goals scored and one conceded, behind Brondby, Copenhagen, Midtjylland and Randers.

The European tie they are in right now is the Conference League third qualifying round, Main Path, against Valur of Iceland. Nordsjælland won the first leg 2-0 at Hlidarendi in Reykjavik on 6 August 2026 in front of 568, Villum Berthelsen scoring with a long-range shot on 30 minutes and Nicklas Rojkjaer converting a penalty on 78. Gergo Bogar of Hungary refereed. The second leg is at the Right to Dream Park on 13 August 2026, with Edgars Malcevs of Latvia in charge.
