The club
Penybont FC were founded in 2013 through the merger of Bridgend Town and Bryntirion Athletic, taking the name of the Penybont area near Bridgend in south Wales. The ground is the DragonBet Stadium, formerly known as Bryntirion Park, capacity 1,200, with an artificial pitch funded by the sale of Bridgend Town's previous ground to the supermarket chain Asda. The pitch was officially opened on 7 January 2014 when the former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay presided over a friendly in which Cardiff's development side won 5-0.
The club's home colours are a blue jersey with white shorts and socks. Rhys Griffiths has been manager since May 2016, succeeding Francis Ford, the club's first manager. Penybont are a small club playing in the Cymru Premier, the top tier of Welsh football, and should not be confused with the larger and more established Welsh Premier clubs also covered in this corpus, or with any club of a similar name elsewhere in Wales.
Recent seasons
Penybont's promotion to the Cymru Premier was confirmed on 13 April 2019, after promotion rivals lost their matches.
