The club

PSV, formally Philips Sport Vereniging, were founded on 31 August 1913 as a sports club for employees of the Philips electronics company in Eindhoven. Together with Ajax and Feyenoord, PSV form the Netherlands' "big three" and are the country's second most successful club, behind only Ajax. PSV should not be confused with FC Eindhoven, a separate club from the same city with which PSV had a fading local rivalry through the 1970s, nor, given the shared initials and frequent confusion in casual conversation, with Paris Saint-Germain.

The club has played at the Philips Stadion since its foundation; the current ground holds around 35,000 and PSV's colours are red and white. PSV's main modern rivalry is with Ajax, the two clubs having traded the Eredivisie title for much of the last decade.

The head coach is the Dutchman Peter Bosz, appointed on 23 June 2023 on a three-year deal to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy, who had left the post that May. Bosz won the Eredivisie in each of his first three full seasons in charge, 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26, becoming the third PSV manager to win back-to-back titles in his opening two years and, at 61, the oldest coach to win the Eredivisie. In Europe, PSV won the UEFA Cup in 1977/78 and, most famously, the European Cup in 1987/88, beating Benfica 6-5 on penalties after a goalless draw through 120 minutes in the final at Stuttgart's Neckarstadion on 25 May 1988.
