The club

Queens Park Rangers were founded in 1882 as Christchurch Rangers and took their present name after merging with St Jude's Institute in 1886, the merged club taking its name from the Queen's Park area of north-west London where most of the players lived. They have played at Loftus Road in Shepherd's Bush, west London, since 1917 apart from two spells at the nearby White City Stadium; the capacity is 18,439. They are the R's, the Hoops or the Super Hoops, and play in blue and white hoops. Lee Hoos is chairman.

Recent seasons

QPR have been a Championship club since relegation from the Premier League in 2015. They finished ninth in 2020/21 with 68 points and 11th in 2021/22 with 66. In 2022/23 they collapsed to 20th with 50 points after leading the division early in the season. They were 18th in 2023/24 with 56 points, 15th in 2024/25 with 56, and 15th again in 2025/26 with 58 points from 46 games, 16 wins, ten draws and 20 defeats, 61 goals scored and 73 conceded. Three straight seasons of comfortable but unremarkable mid-to-lower table finishes.

Honours and landmarks

The League Cup of 1967 is the club's one major trophy, and QPR remain the first third-tier club to have won it, beating West Bromwich Albion 3-2 at Wembley from two goals down. They won the Third Division championship in the same season, 1966/67, and were Second Division champions in 1948 and 1983. They won the Southern League in 1908 and 1912. Record attendance is 41,097 against Leeds United in an FA Cup tie in 1932 at White City; the Loftus Road record is 35,353, also against Leeds United, on 27 April 1974. Tony Ingham holds the appearance record with 519 games between 1950 and 1963, and George Goddard the scoring record with 186 goals between 1926 and 1934. Record fee paid is £12,500,000 for Christopher Samba in January 2013; record fee received is £19,500,000 for Eberechi Eze to Crystal Palace in August 2020.

The two seasons a writer is most likely to reach for are 1975/76, when QPR finished First Division runners-up, a single point behind Liverpool, the closest the club has come to the title; and 1981/82, when they reached the FA Cup final as a Second Division side and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in a replay.

Record victory: 9-2 against Tranmere Rovers in Division Three on 3 December 1960. Record defeat: 1-8 against Manchester United in Division One on 19 March 1969.

QPR do not publish all-time head-to-head records and none was established for any 2026/27 Championship opponent. Two live connections exist this season. Goalkeeper Murphy Cooper was sold to Plymouth Argyle on 14 July 2026, though Plymouth are in League One. More immediately, QPR open the Carabao Cup at home to Millwall, who finished third in the Championship in 2025/26 with 83 points and lost in the play-offs, and open the league away at Portsmouth, who finished 18th with 55 points, three behind QPR. Three players have arrived. Left-back Boy Kemper joined from NAC Breda on a free transfer on 1 July. Goalkeeper Calum Ward signed from Motherwell for £800,000 on 9 July. Right-back Tariq Lamptey arrived from Fiorentina on a free transfer on 21 July.

Departures have brought in more than the arrivals cost. Midfielder Sam Field went to Norwich City on 19 June for £1,500,000 with a further £1,300,000 in add-ons. Goalkeeper Murphy Cooper joined Plymouth Argyle on 14 July for £250,000 plus £250,000 in add-ons. Forward Zan Celar was sold to Basel on 17 July for £1,300,000. Forward Cian Dillon went to Dundalk for an undisclosed fee on 21 July, and right-back Hevertton Santos to Levski Sofia for an undisclosed fee on 30 July.

Pre-season was based around a trip to Austria. QPR drew 0-0 with First Vienna on 11 July and won 3-1 at 1. Wiener Neustadter on 16 July, then beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 behind closed doors on 21 July and beat Fiorentina 3-2 on 25 July, the club they had just signed Lamptey from.

The season starts with the Carabao Cup first round at home to Millwall at Loftus Road on Saturday 8 August 2026 at 2pm. The Championship campaign opens away at Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday 15 August 2026 at 3pm.
