Queen's Park
The club
Queen's Park were founded in Glasgow on 9 July 1867 and are the oldest association football club in Scotland and the tenth oldest in the world. They are the Spiders and play in black and white hoops. Their motto, Ludere Causa Ludendi, "to play for the sake of playing", reflects the 152 years they spent as an amateur club. Queen's Park founded Hampden Park in 1873 and bought farmland at Mount Florida where the third and current Hampden opened in 1903; they were the ground's owners until selling it to the Scottish FA. They played at Hampden Park from 1903 to 2021 and again from 2023 to 2025. From 2025/26 they have played at Lesser Hampden, known as the City Stadium for sponsorship reasons, which holds 990 and is comfortably the smallest ground in the Scottish Championship. This is not the same club as Queens Park Rangers of London.
Recent seasons
Members voted on 14 November 2019, with 91 per cent in favour, to end the club's amateur status. The professional era has been a steady climb followed by a plateau. Queen's Park won League Two in 2020/21, went up from League One through the play-offs in 2021/22, and have been a Championship club since 2022/23. They finished eighth in 2023/24, sixth in 2024/25 and sixth again in 2025/26 with 41 points from 36 games, nine wins, 14 draws and 13 defeats, 35 goals scored and 48 conceded. Fourteen draws in 36 matches was the defining feature of last season; safety was confirmed with a goalless draw against Greenock Morton. Their 2022/23 finishing position was not established from the sources read.
Honours and landmarks
Queen's Park have won the Scottish Cup ten times, in 1873, 1874, 1875, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1884, 1886, 1890 and 1893, the third-highest total in the competition's history. The last of them was a 2-1 win over Celtic in 1893. In the modern era their league honours are Division Two in 1980/81, the Third Division in 1999/2000 and Scottish League Two in 2020/21.
They are the only Scottish club to have reached the final of the English FA Cup, and they did it twice, losing 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers in 1884 and 2-0 to the same opponents in 1885. That was the first instance of the same two clubs meeting in consecutive FA Cup finals, not repeated until Manchester United and Manchester City in 2023 and 2024.
Queen's Park formed the Scottish Football Association on 13 March 1873 along with seven other clubs, and are credited with developing the passing game at a time when English clubs dribbled; a contemporary account described them as clubs who "dribble little and usually convey the ball by a series of long kicks, combined with a judicious plan of passing". They did not concede a goal in a competitive match until the 1875 Scottish Cup semi-final, a 2-2 draw with Clydesdale, and did not lose a match until December 1876, 2-1 to Vale of Leven.
The club's all-time record win, record defeat and record attendance were not established from the sources read for this file; the modern-era record win and defeat in particular could not be sourced.
Notable scorelines
The 1893 Scottish Cup final, won 2-1 against Celtic, is the club's last major trophy. An early Scottish Cup victory of 7-0 over Dumbreck in 1873 is recorded but is not stated as a club record. From last season, the useful results are a 3-0 win away at Airdrieonians in December 2025, a 2-1 home win over Raith Rovers in November 2025, a 5-0 defeat by Partick Thistle, and an 8-0 Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Rangers in the fifth round. Josh Fowler was top scorer with 19 goals in all competitions, ten of them in the league.
Head-to-head notes
Raith Rovers publish all-time head-to-head records on their match pages and their published record against Queen's Park stands at Raith 56 wins, Queen's Park 38, with 29 draws; that figure comes from Raith's own site and could not be re-verified directly for this file, as the page returned an access error. No published all-time record was established against any other 2026/27 Championship opponent, including Livingston, whom Queen's Park meet first. The one current-season head-to-head on record is the Premier Sports Cup group win over Queen of the South, 3-1 at the City Stadium on 25 July 2026.
Right now (2026/27)
Queen's Park are in the Scottish Championship. Sean Crighton is the head coach, appointed on 15 May 2025 after being promoted from a role in the club's academy, with the former Dundee manager Jim Duffy as his assistant. No managerial change was listed for Queen's Park ahead of 2026/27, so Crighton begins a second season.
Transfer business has been low-key and largely internal. Charlie Fox was confirmed as staying with the club on 22 July. Two under-19s were given full-time deals on 29 July as the squad was finalised. No incoming senior signings or outgoing transfers were established from the sources read.
In the Premier Sports Cup Queen's Park were in Group A with Aberdeen, Queen of the South, Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers, with the competition starting on 11 July. They beat Queen of the South 3-1 at the City Stadium on 25 July in the final group match. The results of their other three group fixtures were not established from the sources read, and they did not progress.
The Championship campaign opens away at Livingston at Almondvale Stadium on Saturday 1 August 2026 at 3pm. Livingston are managed by Glenn Whelan, appointed on 30 May 2026 after Marvin Bartley resigned on 7 May.
