The club
Salford City were founded in 1940 as Salford Central and play at Moor Lane in Salford, Greater Manchester, known commercially as the Peninsula Stadium and holding 5,108. They are the Ammies, a contraction of the club's early amateur status. They played in tangerine until 2014 and in red shirts and white shorts thereafter, and are reverting to orange from the end of the 2025/26 season.
Recent seasons
Salford have been a League Two club since promotion in 2018/19 and 2026/27 is their eighth consecutive season at that level. They finished 11th in 2020/21, 15th in 2021/22, 14th in 2022/23 and 16th in 2023/24, then improved sharply, finishing fourth in 2024/25 and fourth again in 2025/26. Last season they took 81 points from 46 games, with 25 wins, six draws and 15 defeats, 61 goals scored and 51 conceded. The shape of that record is unusual for a play-off side: only six draws, so a lot of the points came in a block of wins offset by 15 defeats. Karl Robinson managed throughout. They beat Grimsby Town 4-3 on aggregate in the play-off semi-final and then lost the final 0-3 to Notts County at Wembley on 25 May 2026 in front of 30,851. In the cups they reached the fourth round of the FA Cup, went out of the EFL Cup in the first round, and reached the round of 32 of the EFL Trophy.
Honours and landmarks
Salford's one national trophy is the EFL Trophy, won in 2020/21. Their league titles come from the non-league climb: Northern Premier League champions in 2014/15 and National League North champions in 2017/18. Record attendance is 4,518, against Leeds United in the EFL Cup in 2019. The club's distinguishing feature is its ownership. It was bought in 2014 by the Class of 92, the former Manchester United players Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes, alongside the Singapore-based businessman Peter Lim; David Beckham took a 10 per cent stake in 2019. In May 2025 a new ownership group led by Beckham and Gary Neville took control, with the remaining Class of 92 members moving to advisory roles. Project 92 Limited is the owning entity. The rise from the Northern Premier League to the EFL was the subject of a television documentary series, which is why the club has a national profile out of proportion to its size.

Record victory: 7-0 against Barwell in January 2016, from the non-league years. Record defeat: 0-8 against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round in January 2025. From last season, useful results include a 3-1 win at Shrewsbury Town, home wins over Swindon Town (3-2) and Tranmere Rovers (3-1), and an opening-day 1-3 defeat at Crewe Alexandra. The heaviest was a 2-7 home defeat by Rotherham United in the EFL Trophy.
