The club
St. Louis City SC play in Major League Soccer and are based in St. Louis, Missouri. The franchise was awarded on August 20, 2019 as MLS's 28th team. Ownership is led by Carolyn Kindle Betz and other members of the Taylor family, the family behind Enterprise Rent-A-Car, together with Jim Kavanaugh, the chief executive of World Wide Technology; the group made St. Louis City SC the first MLS club with majority female ownership. St. Louis has a long history in American soccer that predates this franchise by decades, but St. Louis City SC itself is a recent club, formed only in 2019 and playing its first match in 2023.
St. Louis City SC is not Saint Louis FC, an earlier St. Louis club that played in the USL Championship from 2014 until it folded on October 17, 2020; Saint Louis FC played at West Community Stadium in Fenton, Missouri, capacity 5,500, and wound down in part to make room for the incoming MLS franchise, but the two clubs were never the same organisation. Earlier St. Louis professional efforts, including AC St. Louis in Division 2 in 2010 and 2011 and Saint Louis Athletica of Women's Professional Soccer, which folded partway through 2010, are likewise separate from St. Louis City SC, as was a failed 2008-09 MLS expansion bid and an April 2017 public vote that rejected stadium funding for a different ownership attempt.
The club's home is Energizer Park, known during construction as CITYPARK, in downtown St. Louis near Union Station. It cost around 458 million dollars, seats 22,423 and was designed so every seat is within 120 feet of the pitch under a canopy roof. The primary colour is a red sometimes described as "CITY Red," which can read as closer to magenta or maroon depending on lighting; earlier colour concepts of river blue, energy yellow and arch steel grey were dropped before launch. The badge carries the Gateway Arch and a symbol for the confluence of rivers at St. Louis. Bradley Carnell was the club's first head coach, from January 2022 to July 2024. John Hackworth served as interim coach through the rest of 2024, Olof Mellberg was head coach from November 2024 to May 2025, David Critchley was interim coach for the rest of 2025, and Yoann Damet, of France, was appointed head coach on December 16, 2025.

St. Louis City SC's first MLS match, on February 25, 2023, was away to Austin FC; St. Louis City SC trailed 2-1 before goals from Jared Stroud and João Klauss won it 3-2. The home opener on March 4, 2023 was a 3-1 win over Charlotte FC. The club opened its inaugural season with five straight wins, a record start for an MLS expansion team, beating the previous mark of four, and matched the 2009 Seattle Sounders for consecutive wins to begin an expansion club's existence. St. Louis City SC's first defeat came on April 1, 2023, 0-1 at home to Minnesota United. The club finished the 2023 regular season with 17 wins, 5 draws and 12 losses for 56 points, first in the Western Conference and fourth overall in the Supporters' Shield table, the first expansion team to win its conference; the 56 points fell one short of the MLS expansion record of 57 set by LAFC in 2018. Honours and landmarks
St. Louis City SC have not won MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield or the U.S. Open Cup. They were Western Conference regular-season champions in their debut year, 2023.
