Stirling Albion
Also written as Stirling.
The club
Stirling Albion were founded in 1945. They play at Forthbank Stadium in Stirling, capacity 3,808 of which 2,508 are seated; the club's earlier home was Annfield. The club are the Binos, a shortening of Albion, and play in red with white trim. Since July 2010 Stirling Albion have been owned outright by the Stirling Albion Supporters Trust, after chairman Peter McKenzie agreed to sell his majority shareholding; they were the first Scottish league club to be one hundred per cent fan-owned.
Recent seasons
Stirling won the fourth tier in 2022/23, taking the League Two title, but went straight back down from League One at the end of 2023/24 and have been in League Two since. They were sixth in League Two in 2024/25 with 48 points from 36 games, 14 wins, 6 draws and 16 defeats. In 2025/26 they were eighth with 38 points, 9 wins, 11 draws and 16 defeats, scoring 46 and conceding 63, the second-worst defensive record in the division. The season ended with Alan Maybury sacked on 10 May 2026. East Kilbride won that League Two title with 69 points; Edinburgh City finished bottom on 24 points after a 15-point insolvency deduction but kept their place by beating Brora Rangers 3-1 on aggregate in the pyramid play-off, and Dumbarton were docked five points for entering administration.
Honours and landmarks
Stirling have won the second tier four times, in 1952/53, 1957/58, 1960/61 and 1964/65, all as Second Division champions in the era when that meant promotion to Division One. They won the third tier five times, in 1946/47, 1976/77, 1990/91, 1995/96 and 2009/10, and the fourth tier once, in 2022/23. They were second-tier runners-up in 1948/49 and 1950/51, third-tier runners-up in 2006/07 and won the third-tier play-offs that same year. Record attendance at Annfield was 26,400 against Celtic in the Scottish Cup in March 1959; at Forthbank it is 3,808 against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup in 1996, a full house. Matt McPhee holds the appearance record with 556 between 1967 and 1981, and Billy Steele is the leading scorer with 129 between 1971 and 1983.
Notable scorelines
Record win: 20-0 against Selkirk in the Scottish Cup on 8 December 1984. Record defeats: 0-9 against Dundee United in Division One on 30 December 1967, and 0-9 against Ross County in the Scottish Cup on 6 February 2010.
Head-to-head notes
No published all-time head-to-head records were established for Stirling Albion against their League Two opponents; the club's own site carries news and fixtures but not historic records. Of last season's meetings, Stirling and Stranraer both sat in the lower half of the same ten-club division and played each other four times, but the individual results are not established from the sources read here. Stirling met Montrose and Arbroath, both League One clubs, in the League Cup group stage this July and lost to both. Kelty Hearts return to League Two for 2026/27 after relegation, and Dumbarton, Edinburgh City, Elgin City, Forfar Athletic, Annan Athletic, Clyde, The Spartans and Stranraer make up the rest of the division.
Right now (2026/27)
Steven Whittaker was appointed manager on 10 May 2026, the same day Alan Maybury was sacked, and Mark McKenna joined as assistant coach on 12 July 2026. The rebuild has been done quietly and mostly with contract announcements rather than fees. Goalkeeper Andrew McNeil signed on 27 May 2026. A defender named Waugh joined on 31 May, the same day Harry Wright extended his stay at Forthbank. Murray Thomas signed on 9 June, a player named Allan on 23 June, and Gould on 30 July, with Gallacher also announced in late July. Young players Raine and Boyle signed their first professional contracts on 19 July. The club's news items give surnames only for several of these arrivals, so first names are not established here. On 17 July 2026 Stirling announced a co-operation agreement with Dunfermline Athletic. Craig Brown was the subject of an injury update on 12 July.
The League Cup group stage went badly. Stirling lost 1-0 to Dundee United on 12 July 2026, 2-0 to Montrose on 18 July and 1-0 to Arbroath on 26 July, and finished fourth in Group B on three points from four games, with one win, three defeats, three goals scored and five conceded. Dundee United and Montrose both finished on nine points and went through. The League Two season begins at home to Dumbarton at Forthbank on Saturday 1 August 2026 at 3pm, with a trip to Kelty Hearts at New Central Park on 8 August.
