Stranraer

The club

Stranraer were founded in 1870 and are one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland; Wikipedia describes them as the third-oldest. They play at Stair Park in Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, opened in 1907, with a total capacity of 4,178 including 1,830 seats. The club's own site refers to the ground as the LIME Stadium at Stair Park under a sponsorship arrangement, a name Wikipedia does not use. Stranraer are the Blues and play in blue and white.

Recent seasons

Stranraer were relegated from League One at the end of the pandemic-shortened 2019/20 season, bottom of the division on 16 points from 27 games, and have been in League Two ever since. They were fourth in 2020/21 with 38 points from 22 games, sixth in 2021/22 with 47, seventh in 2022/23 with 45, and tenth and bottom in 2023/24 with 36 points, surviving by winning the League Two play-off against East Kilbride and so keeping their SPFL place. They were eighth in 2024/25 with 40 points, 11 wins, 7 draws and 18 defeats, with only 34 goals scored. The best of the recent run came in 2025/26: fifth in League Two with 47 points from 36 games, 12 wins, 11 draws and 13 defeats, 46 goals for and 46 against, in a season won by East Kilbride on 69 points.

Honours and landmarks

Stranraer won the Scottish Second Division in 1993/94 and 1997/98, and were runners-up in 2004/05 and 2014/15. They won the Scottish Third Division in 2003/04 and were runners-up in 2007/08. They won the Scottish Challenge Cup in 1996 and the Scottish Qualifying Cup in 1937/38. Record attendance at Stair Park is 6,500 against Rangers on 24 January 1948. In 1990 Stranraer became the first side to win a Scottish Cup tie on penalties, beating Kilmarnock 4-3 in a shootout after a goalless second-round replay. Notable scorelines

Record win: 9-0, achieved twice, against St Cuthbert Wanderers in the Scottish Cup in 2010 and against Wigtown in 2011. Record defeat: 1-11 against Queen of the South in 1932. The 1996 Challenge Cup win and the 1990 penalty shootout against Kilmarnock are the results the club is best known for.

Playmaker Dom Plank returned to the club, announced as part of the 2026/27 build-up under the heading that the magic is back. On 10 July 2026 defender Lewis Gillie and midfielder Zach Bruce joined on loan from Hibernian as part of a co-operation agreement. No departures have been published in the material read here. The League Cup group stage was the worst possible preparation. Stranraer lost 3-2 at home to Ayr United on 11 July 2026, drew 2-2 away at Alloa Athletic on 18 July and lost the shootout 4-3, lost 2-0 at home to Edinburgh City on 21 July and 3-0 at Falkirk on 25 July. That left them bottom of Group G with a single point from four games, four goals scored and ten conceded, in a group won by Ayr United with a perfect twelve points.
