The club
Swansea City were founded in 1912 as Swansea Town and adopted the present name in 1970, when the town became a city. They play at the Swansea.com Stadium, formerly the Liberty Stadium, capacity 21,000, having moved from the Vetch Field in 2005. The club are the Swans, Yr Elyrch in Welsh, and also the Jacks. They play in white shirts with black shorts. A Welsh club in the English league system, they take part in English competitions and have historically also played in the Welsh Cup.
Recent seasons
Swansea have been a Championship club since relegation from the Premier League in 2017/18, and 2026/27 is their ninth consecutive season in the second tier. They were sixth in 2019/20 with 70 points and lost in the play-off semi-finals, then fourth in 2020/21 with 80 points, reaching the play-off final and losing 2-0 to Brentford at Wembley. The years since have been mid-table: 15th in 2021/22 with 61 points, 10th in 2022/23 with 66, 14th in 2023/24 with 57, 11th in 2024/25 with 61 and 11th again in 2025/26 with 64. Vítor Matos is the head coach and signed a new contract to summer 2030 on 31 July 2026.
Honours and landmarks
The League Cup of 2012/13 is the club's only major English trophy, won 5-0 against Bradford City at Wembley, which took Swansea into the Europa League. League titles: Third Division South in 1924/25 and 1948/49, Third Division in 1999/2000 and League One in 2007/08. They have won the Welsh Cup ten times, the Football League Trophy twice and the FAW Premier Cup twice. Swansea have entered the European Cup Winners' Cup on seven occasions, mostly as Welsh Cup holders, and the Europa League once. Their best top-flight season was 2014/15, eighth in the Premier League with 56 points, the club's highest finish and points total at that level. Record attendance at the Vetch Field was 32,796 against Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round in 1968. Wilfred Milne holds the appearance record with 586 games between 1920 and 1937, ahead of Roger Freestone on 563. Ivor Allchurch is the leading scorer with 166 goals across two spells; Cyril Pearce's 35 league goals in 1931/32 is the single-season record. Record fee received is £45m for Gylfi Sigurðsson to Everton in 2017; record fee paid is £18m for André Ayew from West Ham United in 2018.
Notable scorelines
Record win: 12-0 against Sliema Wanderers of Malta in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1982. Record defeat: 0-8 against Liverpool in the FA Cup in 1990. The 5-0 League Cup final win over Bradford City in February 2013 is the club's best-known result.

Out went midfielder Ethan Galbraith to Stoke City for £10m on 1 July 2026, forward Liam Cullen to Leicester City for an undisclosed fee announced on 31 July, centre-back Ricardo Santos to Sheffield Wednesday, goalkeeper Kit Margetson to Manchester United with compensation agreed on 27 July, and defender Sam Parker on a season-long loan to Wycombe Wanderers on 28 July. In came centre-back Stephen Welsh on a free from Celtic, attacking midfielder Elijah Just from Motherwell for a reported £5m, winger Joseph Opoku from Zulte Waregem, announced on 23 July, for a reported £6m plus add-ons of around £685,000, and winger Moussa Yeo from Red Bull Salzburg for an undisclosed fee. The Just and Opoku figures are reported as club-record-scale outlays but sit below the £18m paid for André Ayew in 2018, so they are not club records.
Off the field, AG1 were confirmed as front-of-shirt sponsor, a new home kit in white with pinstripes and copper detailing was launched, and a retail and ticketing store called The Foundry is opening.
Pre-season was based on a camp in Austria: a 2-2 draw with Holstein Kiel, a 2-0 defeat by VfL Bochum, and a 2-0 win over Udinese on 24 July 2026, with Leganés to follow on 1 August. The EFL Cup first round tie at home to Birmingham City is on 8 August 2026 at 3pm, and the Championship season opens away to Stoke City on 15 August 2026 at 3pm.
